Crookedness is the dharma of hell. What is straightness? It is when one has completely abandoned deceit and hypocrisy, when one's words and actions are consistent, and when one's outer and inner selves are the same. Speech is what is spoken, and action is the practice of it. The outer is the body and speech, and the inner is one's own mind. If action is crooked but speech is straight, if the inner is crooked but the outer is straight, and if crookedness is concealed by straightness, that is the dharma of degenerate times. Abandoning deceit and hypocrisy in the mind, and acting with honesty alone, that is the supreme dharma of humans, and all human dharmas are contained within it. Desire-filled thoughts are crooked, while having few desires is straight. Accomplishing things solely for one's own benefit, abandoning that is the dharma of the gods. All beings of degenerate times are those whose bodies are crooked, whose behavior is artificial, whose speech is crooked, who speak deceitfully, and whose minds are crooked, who have deceptive thoughts. All unpleasantness gathers in this, and desires will not be fulfilled by this. Gods and sages are ashamed of this, and the lower realms are not far from this. Those who are extremely crooked and engage in harming others, whose minds are filled with selfishness and deception, have abandoned all paths of virtuous deeds and are burned by the fires of hell beneath the earth. Thus, knowing what to abandon and adopt in the dharma of samsara, and abiding in straight conduct, one should attain true nirvana. That is the supreme teaching of the Victorious Ones. The teachings of the Victorious Ones have two aspects: scriptural and realized. Scripture is the spoken dharma, and realization is the practice of its meaning, which are the three baskets and the three trainings in order. The three baskets of the Vinaya, Sutra, and Abhidharma are the scriptural dharma, the dharma that is spoken. The words and meanings of these are objects of hearing and contemplation. Moral discipline, samadhi, and wisdom are the precious three trainings of the true sons of the Victorious Ones. This is the realized dharma, the dharma to be practiced. These three should be practiced and made familiar. Even if one does not know all of the three baskets of the Buddha, if one knows the meaning of a single word, that is also the scriptural teaching. Even if it is difficult to practice all three trainings of the sons of the Victorious Ones, if one generates a single moment of virtuous mind, that is also the realized teaching. Therefore, if you wish to uphold the teachings of the Victorious Ones, do not seek the teachings externally, but practice them internally. If you practice internally, then

Subdue (your mind) with the teachings of the Buddha. If this mind can be subdued, then Nirvana is attained. Thus, regarding the Dharma of Samsara and Nirvana, although there is a distinction between acceptance and rejection, and it seems necessary to practice virtue and abandon evil, in order to further refine the essence of practice, please listen to my explanation of accepting virtue and abandoning evil, and put it into practice. Virtue is a thought of the mind, and evil is also a thought of the mind. Virtue and evil are not fixed, but should be sought within one's own mind. If the mind is virtuous, the body and speech will also follow suit; if the mind is evil, the body and speech will also act evilly. Therefore, the root of all Dharmas lies in the mind. The method of subduing the mind is what the Supreme Buddha proclaimed. Observe your own mind at all times, observe your own mind at all times and in all places, observe your own mind without a moment's distraction, observe your own mind immediately. When gathering with many people, or when dwelling alone, make a virtuous vow: "At this moment, I shall act in this way," and then establish a sentinel of mindfulness until it is completely accomplished. Observe your own mind in this way at all times. Whether eating, sleeping, walking, standing, or sitting, in all actions, guard your mind with the sentinel of mindfulness, abandon meaningless things and excessive desires, and maintain vigilance. At all times and in all places, observe your own mind in this way. The thoughts of the mind are endless, do not let thoughts wander around, but firmly grasp them with the hook of mindfulness. Do not accept or reject thoughts, let the gathering of thoughts naturally dissipate. Observe your own mind in this way without a moment's distraction. However, for beginners, because of the heavy distraction of the mind, one must strive to raise the mindfulness of observing one's own mind, and again and again observe what kind of distraction and confusion one's own mind will become, and immediately observe one's own mind in this way. Once one is accustomed to observing one's own mind, one will understand the secret of the mind. Once one understands the secret of the mind, one will understand the truth of all Dharmas. The truth of all Dharmas is the nature of the mind. This nature is difficult to express, and can only be understood by experiencing it oneself. For something that cannot be examined, what is there to examine? Awakening and examination are just names. What transcends names is the supreme meaning. If one can know it, it is called Nirvana. How wonderful! Friends, observe your own mind! Virtue, evil, Samsara, and Nirvana are all fully present in your own mind. For this, the body and speech need no action. Subduing one's own mind is the teaching of the Buddha. And some people asked:
