If a novice monk does not regard the Khenpo (preceptor) as a teacher due to arrogance, or if he is capable of carrying out the Dharma instructions but does not, then the act of requesting the Khenpo becomes a transgression, and this offense should be confessed. Furthermore, violating the general precepts of taking refuge, such as making offerings to the Three Jewels; and violating the individual precepts, such as not taking refuge in worldly deities (like Ishvara) after taking refuge in the Buddha, should also be confessed. As with most previous cases, even if some actions are not carried out physically or verbally, as long as the intention arises or the intention is accepted, it is considered an offense to be confessed. As stated in the Root Text: 'For those who have not taken full ordination or monastic vows, accepting (evil deeds) is a transgression.' The Extensive Commentary also states: Except for defeat offenses, all offenses of a novice monk should be confessed, which seems to be its intention. In the commentary of the Three Hundred Verses, it also seems that from the arising of intention to actions not carried out physically or verbally, one should guard against them. Non-falling offenses: 'Holding and separating, likewise digging the earth, touching jewels and fire, abandoning and then eating, eating without being given, likewise accumulating and eating, climbing trees and cutting trees, discarding green grass and impurities, destroying seeds and the basis of learning, placing the moon, leaving the monastery, accumulating, novice sleeping, walking without speaking, these are eighteen.' Thus, from holding and abandoning the ten-day robe, to walking without speaking from the place of karma, these eighteen are declared as non-falling offenses. The 'half' is because lay people also need to guard against the remaining offenses, while novice monks do not need to guard each other, so it is counted as half. 'Holding and separating' indicates that neither the robe nor the bowl needs to be held for ten days. 'The basis of learning' refers to the basis of learning for holding and the basis of learning for separating, which clarifies the end of other offenses, and does not itself indicate a single non-falling offense. 'Likewise digging the earth' and so on, each indicates a single non-falling offense. The sum of the non-falling offenses up to 'the basis of learning' is quoted from the Vinaya-vibhanga. The remaining two hundred and twelve offenses are offenses that should be guarded against. That is, the offenses actually included in the sum of two hundred and fifty-three offenses, and the remaining offenses of the novice monk that have become non-falling offenses, starting from spitting in the water. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two hundred and ten, from the sins such as 'should not abandon mother' to 'should not abandon'. All of these, except for a few such as the fault of going to a place where those without monastic robes and heretics actually reside, all the faults committed by a bhikshu, summarized by seventeen matters, should be restrained by the bhikshu's precepts. The seven items from song and dance to rosary are violations of the precepts belonging to the downfall of enjoying belongings. The four faults such as sitting on a high bed belong to the downfall of repairing bed legs. The fault of wearing white clothes, and the remaining faults of abandoning the householder's appearance, and the other two faults, are the faults of the fundamental time. Therefore, these are not counted among any of the downfall summarized by the two hundred and fifty-three precepts. Cutting down a sinless tree and destroying seeds are counted as one of the downfalls actually included in the precepts for a bhikshu. Thus, by the power of the Tathagata's teachings recorded in writing, May all beings, with tireless diligence, Protect the supreme precepts, Swiftly reach the state of omniscience. This is a note made in accordance with the Guru's instructions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
