Collection of Teachings by Master Tsongkhapa JTs16, The Novice Monk's Discipline 'Heavenly Peak Grove'. The Novice Monk's Discipline 'Heavenly Peak Grove'. Homage to the All-Knowing One! The five categories of offenses for a Bhikshu (fully ordained monk) transform into three categories for a novice monk: some are offenses that exceed the vows taken, some are offenses of a similar nature, and some do not constitute offenses at all. Among the offenses that exceed the vows taken, there are thirty-six types. The first is 'the four killings', meaning killing a human being is a transgression similar to Parajika (defeat). Its components are: basis, intention, action, and completion. The basis has two aspects: the support and the object. The support is a novice monk who possesses pure vows, or is recoverable, whose consciousness is in a natural state, and who was not a novice monk before taking the vows. The object is a human being or a being in the process of becoming human. Intention includes recognition and motivation. Recognition is recognizing a human being or a being in the process of becoming human as such, or having doubts about it. Motivation is the continuous desire to kill that being. Action is the attempt to kill, either by oneself or through an agent, using poison, weapons, or any other means. Completion is when the life force is cut off, which constitutes a transgression similar to Parajika. In short, except for the transgression similar to Parajika of killing a human being, all physical and verbal offenses arising from the intention to kill a human being, and the intention to kill a non-human being other than an animal, are considered repentable offenses. The second is striking an animal, which is a repentable offense. Its components include the basis and the limbs. The basis is the same as before. The object is a living being belonging to the animal realm, visible to the ordinary eye, and possessing a life-sustaining basis. Intention has two aspects: recognition, which is recognizing a living being as such, or having doubts about it. Motivation is the continuous desire to strike a living being for the benefit of others. Action is the attempt to strike a living being for the benefit of others, either by oneself or through an agent. Completion is that for every animal that dies, a corresponding offense must be repented. The third is engaging in impure conduct with an animal, which is a repentable offense. The basis, limbs, etc., are the same as before. The motivation is the desire to engage in impure conduct solely for one's own benefit. The action is the attempt to engage in impure conduct solely for one's own benefit, either by oneself or through an agent. The fourth is killing an animal, which is a repentable offense. Among its four components, the support is as before. The object is a living being belonging to the animal realm. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taking life, its basis is sentient beings without a basis. The intention in thought is: to recognize an animal as an animal, or to have doubts about it. The motivation is to want to kill, and this thought is continuous. The action is to kill oneself or to instruct others, using a knife or any other means. The ultimate is when the life force of the sentient being is cut off. Taking what is not given, there are four aspects: the basis, the support of the limbs as mentioned before. The object, that is, the object of stealing is: the property of others that is different from oneself. The thing to be stolen is: at a specific time and place, through one action, it has value for both the thief and the one being stolen from, food, instruments of punishment, etc. that are owned and controlled by others, but not items suddenly owned by the guardians of the cemetery due to accidents, therefore it is of considerable value. The intention in thought is not confusing the general and specific aspects. The motivation is: although it belongs to others, even without permission, one wants to permanently possess it for one's own survival, and this thought is continuous. The action is to steal oneself or to instruct others to steal. The ultimate is when the thought of obtaining arises. Apart from offenses similar to the downfall of taking what is not given, all the sins of body and speech caused by the mind of stealing belong to this category and should be confessed. Non-celibacy, there are two aspects: the basis and the limbs. The support is: it is a jewel, related to one's own continuum, can be acted upon, and is free from disease. The object is: the three paths, and the two parts of the body where these three paths are located. The three paths are: the mouth, the path of excrement, and the first boundary above the direction of the woman's birth canal, which has not been damaged by disease, etc. The body in which these three paths are located is a complete body, or the upper or lower part of the body is complete, and can be used, whether it is the body of the dead or the living, whether it is human or non-human, whether it is male, female, or hermaphrodite, whether it is one's own or another's body wound, any situation is similar to a downfall. There are two aspects to the intention: the cognition is similar, without confusion; the motivation is the continuous thought of wanting to possess the touch of encountering the path and the limbs. The action is to act according to the intention of the intention. The ultimate is when, upon insertion, the body's consciousness experiences the touch and the mind generates a sense of possession, one commits an offense similar to the downfall of non-celibacy. Apart from offenses similar to the downfall of non-celibacy, all the sins of body and speech caused by the desire to speak of non-celibacy, or to accept what others say, belong to this category and should be confessed. False speech, there are four aspects: the basis, the limbs have three. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
