Collected Verses from Khunu Rinpoche's Teachings RD11. Collected Verses. Verses to Inspire the Mind, etc. Some verses from the miscellaneous writings of Jetsun Rinpoche Redawa. Verses to Inspire the Mind. I prostrate to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions. If the ocean of suffering has no end, And is always in a state of turmoil, Then, mind, you must remain vigilant. Like a wild elephant without a hook, You have acted freely in the past. You have defiled the pool of discipline, And destroyed the garden of a hundred petals of merit. Now, for all actions, You must always observe with the eye of awareness. Place the pillar of mindfulness behind you, And always associate with cautious friends. If one continuously relies on mindfulness and awareness of the mind, They will not be destroyed by the thieves of afflictions. For the wise who possess the wealth of faith and discipline, etc., These riches will increase day by day. Verses to Inspire the Mind, composed by the Shakya monk, Youthful Wisdom. Good! Verses on the Faults of Desire. The world's guide, the teacher of gods and humans, Taught that craving for desire is the root of destruction. The satisfaction of desire breeds suffering, It is the root of disease, sores, and pain. Just as a leper scratches an itch, A person with a fever craves cool water, And a thirsty person drinks salty water, Craving desire is never satisfied. Like delicious food mixed with poison, Honey on the edge of a razor, And a draft animal eating grass, The satisfaction of desire is small, but the faults are many. Like bees infatuated with scent, Deer listening to the songs of hunters, And fish craving the meat on a hook, Children who crave desire are quickly destroyed. Verses on the Faults of Desire, composed by the Shakya monk, Youthful Wisdom. Good! Verses on the Alphabet. Homage to the Guru). A voice as melodious as the kalaviṅka bird, A noble body as beautiful as pure gold, Activities flowing naturally like the Ganges River, I prostrate to your wise mind that has abandoned self-grasping. Making sweet, clamorous sounds, singing delightful songs, Young women with elegant manners, pleasing to the mind, Tea and other satisfying offerings, -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- མས་ལ་སྲེད་པའི་

A man who lusts after women, Is like a fisherman, condemned by the holy ones. Even a beauty as soft as a Tala leaf, Will surely turn into a pile of bones in the end. Abandon your lustful thoughts right now, And contemplate the suffering of aging, death, and birth. Maintain a disposition as soft as Pari silk, And have compassion for the six kinds of sentient beings who have been your parents, Cherishing them like a mother caring for her calf. O wise ones, may you always protect them like a mother! Trees rich with green grass, flowers, and fruits, Forests that dispel the heat and offer cool shade. In the solitary forest praised by Jaya, To destroy the afflictions that grow like Vāskya grass, Leave the crowds like a blind man. Abandon sensory pleasures such as food, And forsake all relatives and friends. Wander alone in this strange world. This mind of yours, as hard as a rhinoceros horn, Will not be tamed by lazy behavior. Hold a grudge against it like a meat-eater, And meditate well on samadhi, unwavering like the earth. Escape the terror of Yama, the Lord of Death, And realize the unborn state signified by the letter A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: without)! Thus spoke Kumāramati, a Shakya monk, Who has faith in the teachings of the Buddha. May the merit arising from this be dedicated to all beings, as vast as the sky! Virtuous! A Differentiation of the Divisions of Projecting and Completing Karma. Homage to all the Victorious Ones and their Sons in the ten directions. The internal sense bases, such as the eye, Their essence is the projecting (karma) that produces (the result). And their distinctions, such as good and bad, Are produced by the completing (karma). All sentient beings in the happy realms, Are projected by virtuous actions. And the beings in the lower realms, Should be known to be projected by non-virtuous actions. Wherever there is beauty and wealth, It is completed by virtuous actions. The opposite of that, Is said to be completed by non-virtuous actions. The happy realms, endowed with happiness, Both their projecting and completing (karma) are virtuous. The lower realms, endowed with suffering, Both their projecting and completing (karma) are non-virtuous actions. For sentient beings in happy realms who are endowed with suffering, The projecting (karma) is virtuous, and the completing (karma) is evil. The lower realm beings who are endowed with complete happiness, Are the opposite of that. Beings who die with virtuous thoughts, Will be reborn in happy realms. Those who are endowed with non-virtuous thoughts, such as desire, Will go to lower realms. Whether there is conceptual thought or not, Having completely transcended and not abiding in anything, The wise one is completely liberated, Without grasping, they pass into nirvana. The End of the Differentiation of Karma. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
