Excerpt from the Arya-Vikalpana-Sutra Excerpt from the Arya-Vikalpana-Sutra Discourse on the Excerpt from the Arya-Vikalpana-Sutra Excerpt from the Arya-Vikalpana-Sutra. Homage to Shakyamuni! From the Condensed Sutra of the Arya-Vikalpana: May sentient beings not fall into the great abyss of abandoning the Dharma. Therefore, Manjushri (འཇམ་དཔལ་) asked: 'Bhagavan, what is meant by abandoning the Dharma?' The Bhagavan replied: 'Manjushri, whoever perceives the words spoken by the Tathagata as either good or bad, that is abandoning the Dharma. One who abandons the Dharma, by abandoning the Dharma, slanders the Tathagata and speaks ill of the Sangha. If one says, 'This is reasonable, this is not reasonable,' that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says, 'This was spoken for the sake of Bodhisattvas, this was not spoken for the sake of Bodhisattvas,' that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says, 'This was spoken for the sake of Shravakas,' that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says, 'This was spoken for the sake of Pratyekabuddhas,' that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says, 'This is the training of Bodhisattvas, this is not the training of Bodhisattvas,' that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says 'there is confidence' or 'there is no confidence,' that is abandoning the Dharma. If one teaches Dharma as non-Dharma, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says that even without the appearance of a Buddha, one can obtain dharani (གཟུངས་,梵文:dhāraṇī,梵文罗马拟音:dhāraṇī,总持), that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says that obtaining dharani is not completely pure, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says that the conduct of a Dharma speaker is flawed, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says that the practice of a Dharma speaker is not perfect, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one speaks with negligence, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one speaks about conduct, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one speaks about the deterioration of conduct and discipline, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says that it cannot be understood with confidence, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says that the permitted aspects have not been well explained, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one makes contradictory statements without understanding, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one engages with the Tathagata's teachings in the name of letters, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one makes Sutras contradict Sutras, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one makes verses contradict verses, that is abandoning the Dharma. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If someone says, 'These verses are contradictory,' that is abandoning the Dharma. 2-1078 If one approves of some doctrines and disapproves of others, that is abandoning the Dharma. When teaching the Dharma, if one diverts to other topics, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one cannot distinguish between truth and falsehood, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one speaks with conceptual thoughts, that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says, 'This should be done, this should not be done,' that is abandoning the Dharma. If one says, 'This is reasonable, this is not reasonable,' that is abandoning the Dharma. Mañjuśrī, all the confidence of the Śrāvakas and all the confidence of the Bodhisattvas are the power of the Tathāgata. Mañjuśrī, I have made the aspiration that all the confidence of the Śrāvakas and all the confidence of the Bodhisattvas arise from the power of the Tathāgata. Mañjuśrī, I have also made the aspiration to attain bodhi, because those foolish people, blessed by Māra, will go to evil destinies, and they will also find fault. They will also find fault with those who speak the Dharma as permitted by the Tathāgata. They guard their minds for the sake of gain, not for the sake of guarding the teachings of the Tathāgata. 2-1079 By gathering according to lineage, or speaking to Brāhmaṇas and Gṛhapatis, saying, 'You have spoken well! You have understood the meaning of the Tathāgata's teachings well!', and agreeing with one aspect of what you have said, those grounds for agreement will lead to abandoning the Dharma, thus becoming equal to going to a great evil destiny. This is the narration of a fragment from the Ārya-vajracchedikā-sūtra. Auspicious! Explanation of a Fragment from the Condensed Ārya-vajracchedikā-sūtra Arisen from the naturally pure realm of jewels, Perfecting two benefits, increasing the mandala of three bodies. Possessing the white light of spontaneously accomplished excellent activities, To the Sage, the Moon, I pay homage. Regarding this fragment of the condensed Ārya-vajracchedikā-sūtra, it should be understood through three aspects: namely, the necessity, the summary, and the meaning of the words. First, regarding this sutra, clearly understanding the characteristics and faults of the actions of abandoning the Dharma, viewing it like looking at a cliff, thereby abandoning it. And in order to abandon it, by having faith and respect for the Dharma and the speakers of the Dharma, through great reverence and offerings, to obtain temporary and ultimate benefits. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
