The seven destinies are: the birthplace of a pig, a dog, a fox, a monkey, a venomous snake, a vulture, and a crow. He saw that he would experience eating impure things in those seven destinies. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, having seen those seven destinies, thought: Alas, this son of the gods will experience unbearable great suffering. Who else but the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, could be his refuge, support, and help? Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, that night at dusk, carrying incense, flowers, various incenses, clothes, and various ornaments, went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, circumambulated seven times, made great offerings, and then sat before the Blessed One and reported in detail to the Blessed One the seven destinies that the son of the gods, Firm, would experience. As soon as the lord of the gods, Indra, reported those seven destinies, various rays of light emanated from the crown of the Blessed One's head, filling all places in the realms of the ten directions, and then returned and entered through the door of the Blessed One's mouth. Then, the Blessed One smiled and said to the lord of the gods, Indra: Lord of the gods, the dharani called "Ushnishavijaya," which is empowered by the Tathagata from the crown of the head, completely purifies all evil destinies, destroys all obstacles and suffering rebirths, completely purifies the hells of sentient beings, the animal realm, and the world of Yama, and places beings on the path of good destinies. Lord of the gods, therefore, the Ushnishavijaya Dharani, which completely purifies all evil destinies, as soon as it is heard, will purify obstacles and destroy various increasingly great sufferings.

Will obtain a lineage of complete purity. In all lifetimes, one will remember past lives. Will go from Buddha-field to Buddha-field. Deeds of body, speech, and mind, etc., will be completely purified, and one will abide in pleasant touch. All the Tathagatas will also look upon him. They will also constantly and unceasingly protect, rescue, and conceal him. All Bodhisattvas will also think of him. Merely reciting it will cause all places of sentient beings' hells, animal realms, the world of Yama, and the land of pretas to become parched, destroyed, scattered, cleared away, and emptied. Likewise, the doors of all Buddha-fields, all abodes of gods, and all abodes of Bodhisattvas will be opened, and one will enter wherever one desires. Sealed by the mudra of all the Tathagatas. For the purpose of leading all sentient beings to happiness, and preventing those who have fallen into evil destinies, and for saving sentient beings who are suffering and afflicted in all places of suffering such as hells, the birthplaces of animals, and the world of Yama, and who have fallen into the ocean of suffering. Likewise, for the benefit of sentient beings who have short lives and many diseases, who are of little merit and inferior, and who are distracted, and who have fallen away from the path, this Dharani is established in Jambudvipa. Lord of Gods, you should hold this Dharani and proclaim it to the very steadfast sons of the gods! After proclaiming it, you should also recite it, read it, contemplate it, meditate on it, remember it, make offerings to it, hold it, and fully understand it.
