Do not let the eight worldly concerns control you. Always observe your own mind. The key point of Dharma is right here. And, Paltrul Rinpoche said: Look again and again, look at your own mind. If you examine your mind again and again, No matter what you do, you will go on the right path. All the key points of the instructions are concentrated on this one. And, Dodrup Rinpoche said: What is the use of saying much, if you want to summarize the key points, There is no other way than to focus on the familiar awareness. He said, just like a messenger, Recite the message and tie a knot. Think about the method of not forgetting the sacred Dharma. Take the key points of Dharma as the core. Recite it repeatedly with your mind and make it familiar, In order to remember it again and again, tie a string as a reminder. At all times, close the doors of the senses, Examine yourself, correct yourself. Through various methods, tame and train the wild horse-like mind that is difficult to control, And lead it to the path of goodness. Such words are very many. Chögyal Dudjom Lama also said: Cut off the attachment to associating with friends, Associate with companions of mindfulness and awareness. Such words show that those holy beings who understand the key points of practice, even without consultation, have agreed on this view. The place where mindfulness and awareness rely on is the place of abandoning and accepting, and the distinctions that one has promised, which should be determined by wisdom, so it is crucial not to make mistakes. Furthermore, the method of learning the three difficulties of mind training, and practicing through happiness and suffering, do not immediately use whatever you encounter for meditation, etc., it can be seen that both the Sutra and Tantra stages of the path follow this method. In order for such behavior of guarding the mind to arise, Then, the essence of all the Dharmas of abandoning the world is this: That is, To delight in being alone. Such words explain the merits of seclusion. Wanting to have such a dual strength depends on contentment with few desires. The Abhidharmakosha says: Having dual strength, but not knowing contentment, Is impossible for those with strong desires. The arising of contentment with few desires is because of having mindfulness and awareness in seclusion, praying to the Lama and the Three Jewels with strong devotion, and viewing the happiness of samsara as poison, Turning one's back on the suffering of this life, No matter what happiness or suffering arises, firmly put on the armor of patience.

For the stages of the path for small and middling individuals, there seems to be no other method than to mix together view, thought, and meditation. As a driving force for that, it is important to maintain pure discipline with faith and devotion, to take the accomplishment of aspirations as the main cause, to cling to the Lama and the Three Jewels like a dead person clings to a coffin, and to constantly make strong prayers for both the immediate and the long term. As it says in the sutras: "All phenomena are causes and conditions; they abide at the peak of aspiration. Whatever aspiration one plants, one will obtain such a result." Therefore, if one can do this, one can emerge victorious from the battlefield of the eight worldly concerns. Trigung Tangpa said: "Among all practices, cherish and protect discipline. Among all texts, study the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment." And Kunchen Jigme Lingpa said: "Entrusting the mind to the Lama is the ultimate of refuge. Taking the benefit of others as one's own responsibility is the essence of generating Bodhicitta. Guarding mindfulness and awareness is the key to the Sutra and Tantra paths. Put aside those self-important clevernesses!" If one is fortunate enough to put these teachings into practice, that would be excellent; do not hesitate. Old man! These are the teachings that the old man, hidden in the solitary mountain valley, gave to me in the Water Dragon year (1712). May auspiciousness increase! Do not stop the breath; an empty head of grain does not rise high. May the main one of the two witnesses, the pair of lips, be warm and auspicious. Again, the mad A-tso! Notes on the Excellent Instructions on the Key Points of the Path of the Great Perfection of Clear Light.
