A Concise Note on the Outer, Inner, and Secret Preliminaries. A Concise Note on the Outer, Inner, and Secret Preliminaries. First, visualize above the crown of your own body, a blue vajra ablaze with fire, Guru Rinpoche, inseparable from the lama, the embodiment of all refuges, adorned in the attire of Heruka, and chant the Vajra Guru mantra. Go to a place invisible to the human eye, perform the visualizations, and visualize the five perfections. With the intention, "For the benefit of all sentient beings, I shall separate samsara," generate bodhicitta, etc., and through the three aspects of preliminary, main practice, and conclusion, the outer, inner, secret, and innermost secret is the wisdom lama himself. The outer symbolic example is the lama, the inner symbolic meaning is the actual lama, awakened from the depths of the heart by the symbolic methods and pith instructions of self-arisen wisdom, is the lama of the path. When abiding in the base, it is the lama of the base. When finally manifesting as the form that reveals the three kayas, it is the lama of the result. It is the footprints of all past Buddhas, the practice of all future Buddhas, and the only correct path traversed by all present Buddhas, so from now until enlightenment, one must not stray from this path. This is just a glimpse of the small accumulation path. The situation is that although the nature is pure, the appearance is covered by sudden adventitious stains, so there are many ways to generally distinguish between samsara and nirvana regarding the obscuring habitual tendencies. Such as the "Four Nails of the Heart Essence," the "Supreme Vehicle Treasury," the "Meaning Treasury," etc., and the methods of distinguishing the outer three doors of body, speech, and mind, and the inner and secret nine aspects, etc. In short, it is to distinguish between the side of the afflicted samsara and the side of the purified nirvana. The side of pure nirvana is the self-arisen wisdom lama. The side of impure samsara is the cause or root of the three realms of samsara, namely the three: virtue, non-virtue, and immovability. Virtue propels one to the three higher realms, non-virtue propels one to the three lower realms, and immovability propels one to the two upper realms. That is, the seven consciousnesses cause the desire realm, the clear appearance and the all-ground consciousness mainly cause the form realm, and the empty appearance causes birth in the formless realm. Therefore, distinguishing the root can destroy the empty appearance, and the clear appearance can break the clinging. The accumulation of the seven consciousnesses is the delusion of the mind in the three times.

Cutting off the ground is how distinctions are made. Therefore, the outer Rushen destroys the illusions of the three doors (body, speech, and mind), the inner Rushen purifies obscurations, and the secret Rushen burns away habitual tendencies. In general, to guide the three kayas, one must learn the sounds of the four elements. Specifically, to guide rigpa (awareness), one must destroy the illusions of the three doors by distinguishing between samsara and nirvana through Rushen. To guide the mind, one must purify the obscurations of the three doors. In general, if one learns the sounds of the four elements, such as the sound of earth, the three doors will manifest as the three kayas, and the direct perception of the three kayas will arise. Although these are necessary, there is not much of a lineage for this. Specifically, it is said that guiding rigpa, once the illusions of the three doors are eliminated, the wisdom of rigpa will manifest like the sun in a clear sky. Guiding the mind, all the illusions and thoughts of the three times are grasped like a dog's leash, and like facing a horse corpse, rigpa is led over, and all illusions are forcibly liberated. It is said that the outer Rushen is the foundation (main) and is very important. The necessity is that if it is placed on a beginner, the body will have made various uncertain actions, the body will be tired, and illusions will cease. The speech will have uttered various uncertain sounds, and one will not want to speak. The mind will have scattered to various uncertain thoughts of the three times. When the force of thoughts diminishes, it will be easier to introduce. If it is placed on those who have some meditation, it will cut off distractions, separate from the shell of experience, and realization will manifest. If it is placed on those who have clinging to experience, it will break down rigidity. If it is placed on those who can recognize but cannot mix meditation and post-meditation, it will mix meditation and post-meditation indissolubly, and one will know that appearances are unreal, rigpa will manifest without support, the cause of birth in the three realms will be exhausted, and the view of the three existences being primordially pure, etc. The necessity of realization is extensively discussed. Lama Nyagbla said: Once rigpa is recognized, one must rely upwards on the lama and the Three Jewels, and rely downwards on the union of rigpa and emptiness. Then, holding the beggar's staff on the right, the beggar's bag on the left, the clay pot in front, and leaning against the mountain rock behind, one must take a deep breath and meditate without squinting the eyes, otherwise he will...
