Notes on the Lamp of Certainty. Notes on the Lamp of Certainty. Homage to the Guru and the Three Jewels! Firstly, the certainty derived from the two kinds of valid cognition is the profound emptiness, the great Madhyamaka free from elaborations. The way of naming this is: naming from the perspective of the speaker, such as Buddhapālita's (梵文 बुद्धपालित) Buddhapālita, etc.; naming from the perspective of example, meaning, number, etc., there are many such ways of speaking in the sutras and tantras. Naming from the perspective of the questioner, such as the Sutra Requested by Stagmo, etc. Naming from the perspective of the place, such as the Lankavatara Sutra. The Ushnishavijaya Sutra, the Stone Throwing Sutra, etc. Naming from the perspective of example, such as the Middle Way Jewel Garland, the Vinaya Beautiful Flower Garland, etc. Naming from the perspective of meaning, such as the Ornament of the Sutras, etc. Naming from the perspective of number, such as the Sixty Reasoning, the Seventy Emptiness, the Four Hundred Verses on the Middle Way, etc. Here, the naming is done from the perspective of combining example and meaning. The meaning is certainty, the example is the precious lamp, which is arranged as an ornament of form. Profound, that is, the aspect of profound emptiness, difficult to understand and deep like the ocean. Vast, that is, the six perfections and the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, etc., the ten bhumis and five paths, etc., are boundless. These two need to be ascertained in one's own mind. The method of ascertaining is to ascertain the two truths by means of the two kinds of valid cognition. Therefore, this excellent treatise on the method of making certainty upright, like a jewel, abides here. Manjushri Vajra is the essence of the union of space and wisdom, which destroys the net of doubt, awakens from the slumber of ignorance, or opens the door of wisdom, with the two kinds of valid cognition as the object, the discriminating wisdom or wisdom that can ascertain the two truths, like a vajra, can destroy the multitude of wrong conceptions, and cannot be destroyed by anything. Among the four reliances, do not rely on the person, but rely on the Dharma; do not rely on the words, but rely on the meaning; do not rely on the provisional meaning, but rely on the definitive meaning; do not rely on consciousness, but rely on wisdom. The former is the sharp-witted, the follower of the Dharma, the pure truth derived from the two kinds of valid cognition, enters the heart in the form of profound certainty, this is the good path. Upright certainty is something that beings, including gods and humans, cannot take away. High above.

Wherever one goes in the lowlands, one can maintain one's independence. In the stages of ground, path, and fruit: the ground is the union of appearance and emptiness, and the two truths; the path is the union of skillful means and wisdom, or the two accumulations of merit and wisdom; the fruit is the pure two bodies, which are the essence body purified by nature, and the wisdom dharma body purified by adventitious stains. Here, it is considered that the dharma body and the form body are two. "Wonderful" refers to the most wonderful Dharma in the sacred land of India, the fame of the wonderful Dharma, such as the seven treatises in Pramana, and the root verses and commentaries of Chandrakirti's "Entering the Middle Way," etc. Both view and conduct are profound. "Like lions intertwining their necks" refers to, for example, when two lions sit with their necks intertwined, no ordinary wild beast can harm them, and they will feel fear and be intimidated. "Sudden inspiration" refers to wisdom suddenly emerging. For example, in the past, when Shakyamuni Buddha taught the "Four Medical Tantras," sages emanated from his forehead, throat, etc., and they paid homage, circumambulated, made offerings, etc., and then asked for the Dharma. "Speculators" refers to those non-Buddhists who are contrary to the Dharma, but it can also refer to those who have failed to understand the profound meaning of the Dharma and act only with narrow views (and ordinary people with lower realms than this). "Raise seven questions in a questioning manner, and please answer them in a way that is consistent with the scriptures and reasoning," meaning that later, no matter what terms are used, these questions cannot be refuted, please give such answers. Regarding the view, please speak out whether it is affirmative or negative. The early schools believed that in the realm of ultimate wisdom, there is nothing that is not empty. It is merely nominal appearance, which cannot be obscured by the hand of the Victorious Ones, they thought. Later scholars also said that this is non-affirming negation, but they said that the pillar is not empty, it is truly existent. Just as the three words "fame, praise, and infamy" are bad words. Therefore, this will become an unwanted non-negation. In the past, in the sacred land of India, Nagarjuna Bodhisattva spoke the "Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way." Consistent with this view, Buddhapalita wrote the commentary on the root verses. Later, Bhavaviveka said that it is unreasonable not to distinguish the ultimate nature of what is to be refuted, which is inconsistent with Nagarjuna's view, etc., so he distinguished the true existence of what is to be refuted. Later, Chandrakirti said that this was unreasonable and pointed out the faults in his view.
