When all phenomena are ascertained to be of the nature of emptiness, and the consciousness with an object abides in the general characteristic of emptiness, that consciousness appears with the aspect of emptiness. When the consciousness with an object abides in the luminosity of awareness, the power of the arising of luminosity also causes the consciousness with an object to appear with the aspect of luminosity. Therefore, it must be understood that the object and the subject do not exist as separate entities. By repeatedly familiarizing oneself with this, and gradually gaining stability, the appearances of delusion gradually decrease, and the appearances of purity gradually increase, which is said to be a sign of the path. Furthermore, the knowable object and the knowing mind, the wisdom that is inseparable from the two, when it arises in equanimity, is said to be liberation in the nature of reality. This is the oral tradition of the glorious protector lama. This is the method of instruction according to the essence of Mahamudra.
