The Teachings of Chakyen Lotsawa Gyatso TSR45 'The Treasure Trove of Accomplishments: A Ceremony for Offering to the Glorious Lama' 1-565 ༄༅། །The Treasure Trove of Accomplishments: A Ceremony for Offering to the Glorious Lama ༄། །Preliminary Practices. The Treasure Trove of Accomplishments: A Ceremony for Offering to the Glorious Lama. Oṃ, may there be auspiciousness! This is called 'The Treasure Trove of Accomplishments: A Ceremony for Offering to the Glorious Lama'. I prostrate to the supreme Lama, inseparable from the all-pervading Vajrasattva! Here, for the sake of fortunate beings who can traverse to the state of union in one lifetime and one body, I will clearly explain the profound path, the sole gateway, which is the essence of the stainless sutras and tantras, and the quintessence of the practices of the great scholars and accomplished masters of Tibet—the profound Guru Yoga. Therefore, I shall clearly explain the manner of undertaking the ceremony of offering to the glorious and holy Lama. This should be done regularly at times such as night and day, or at times when the benefits are especially great, such as the four great festivals of Thubpa's Wangpo (Shakyamuni Buddha) and the four lesser festivals. If a Lama with whom you have a Dharma connection has passed away, then on the anniversary of their passing, or on the eighth, fifteenth, twenty-third, or twenty-ninth day of the month. The place should be secluded and pleasing, and well-cleaned. 1-566 Above, hang banners with profound teachings written on them. Around the sides, spread curtains of silk and other materials. Adorn with umbrellas, victory banners, banners, streamers, and strings of jewels. In the center of these, place a stable and high platform made of earth or wood, upon which are placed the general supports of the Three Jewels, and in particular, the main images of the lineage Lamas, such as gold statues. If there are painted images of the lineage Lamas, they should also be displayed. In front of these, arrange general offerings to the Three Jewels that are excellent and extensive. In particular, for each lineage Lama, arrange five or ten sets of the five desirable objects. Especially for the root Lama, arrange one hundred and eight, twenty-one, or at least ten offerings. The mandala plate, made of gold, silver, or other materials, should be completely pure, and adorned with representations of the four continents made of jewels or sandalwood. If using tormas (ritual cakes), arrange white rice, barley, or sand and stones. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Incense burners with pleasant fragrances, free from dust and the like, with lids. Butter and curd, etc., are used as offerings every day. 1-567 In addition, there are various types of silk fabrics for covering sacred objects, etc., various musical instruments such as drums, cymbals, ting-ting shags, and conch shells, as well as food and drinks mainly consisting of the 'three whites' and 'three reds', various fruits such as grapes and apricots, tea, brown sugar, gold and silver utensils, various kinds of precious rosaries, etc. All of these are made of good materials and beautifully decorated, so that others who see them will generate faith and find them pleasing to the eye, and when one sees them oneself, it feels as if all one's possessions have been offered. The arrangements should be spacious, the items pure, the quantity large, and the arrangements abundant. Practitioners should bathe and adorn themselves with new clothes that are in accordance with their own customs, and sit on cushions made of silk, etc., facing the sacred objects. On tables, etc., place offerings such as vajras, bells, and flowers. In these circumstances, if the offerings are of poor quality, the items are small, the quantity is small, and the arrangements are messy, etc., many temporary and ultimate interdependent connections will be disrupted, so it is important to cultivate enthusiasm for this method and not be perfunctory. 1-568 The Ritual of the Four Objects Regarding the ritual of the four objects, although in general there are many different views, in the practice of the Jetsun Sakya school, there is the offering ritual of the oral transmission lineage of the gurus, composed by Drogon Chogyal Phagpa (the Protector of Beings, Dharma King Phagpa), which is practiced as a text with supplements, and the offering ritual of the Hevajra guru lineage, composed by Chöje Sakya Pandita (Dharma Lord Sakya Pandita), and the practice of combining it with the continuous confession ritual composed by the accomplished Bhūripa. Here, the practice of the method of first practicing and the order of recitation are as follows: I and all sentient beings as vast as the sky, from this time until reaching the essence of enlightenment, take refuge in the glorious and holy lamas. I take refuge in the perfectly enlightened Buddhas, the Bhagavat. I take refuge in the sacred Dharma. I take refuge in the noble Sangha. Recite the refuge prayer seven or twenty-one times, etc. In the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, I take refuge until enlightenment. By the merit of my generosity and other virtues, may I attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all beings. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
