A commentary on the Definitive Names of the Holy Tara, compiled according to the tradition of the commentators. A commentary on the Definitive Names of the Holy Tara, compiled according to the tradition of the commentators. A commentary on the Definitive Names of the Holy Tara, compiled according to the tradition of the commentators, is complete. Namo Aryataraye. May the Vajra Master, the protector, and the assembly of goddesses always abide as the crown ornament. Pacify the outer and inner obstacles and hindrances for those who are eager to spread the supreme good teachings. Here, in the "Definitive Names," which is known as the essence of the tantra from which Tara arises, the great teacher Marme Dze Pal Yeshe intended to combine it with the Twenty-One Praises. Atisha himself briefly compiled the extensive tantra commentary. This commentary elaborates on it through other commentaries and the oral instructions of the lamas. It consists of three parts: explaining the meaning of the Twenty-One Praises, combining it with the "Definitive Names," and indicating the number of names. First, if we were to explain it word by word here, it would become too lengthy, so it should be expressed concisely. In the first shloka, "Tara" refers to the quality of being able to liberate sentient beings from samsara. "Swift" refers to great compassion. "Hero" refers to the one who has conquered the two obscurations with wisdom, therefore being brave, that is, knowing. "Eyes like lightning" means seeing all things. The protector of the three realms is the Dharmakaya, and what arises from it is the Rupakaya. Thus, it does not have a literal meaning but shows the result. The "literal meaning" refers to liberation from samsara, swift activity, protection from fear, moving eyes, and being born from the face of Avalokiteshvara. The meaning of the second verse is that the autumn moon symbolizes bodhichitta, filled with layers from the jewel to the crown of the head, and all the fine veins are completely filled with bindus like stars. The literal meaning is that the body is white, radiating white light. The meaning of the third verse is that the lotus is the secret lotus, and the symbol of the hand is the vajra of method. From the union of method and wisdom, the bodhichitta does not change, which is discipline, and single-mindedly abiding in bliss, which is meditation. Through these two, all dharmas will
