Although the results of actions are not real, conventional cause and effect are not deceptive. Fire is not real, but it burns wood; water is not real, but moisture does not cease. Likewise, one must generate faith in the results of actions. Practice in this way. Therein, if the mind abides in clarity and emptiness without grasping, it is calm abiding, and one must eliminate both sinking and excitement. All appearances are mind. All transformations arise in the experience of non-grasping, which is insight. By recognizing the self-nature of whatever arises, and cultivating it without artificiality, the realization of the main practice of Mahamudra arises. When whatever is thought in the mind and whatever appears in manifestation does not need to rely on mindfulness and effort, and all recognize their own nature, when clarity and emptiness merge into vastness, it is called "severing the root," which is the ultimate subsequent experience. This was also a close instruction given by Tāranātha for the sake of a spiritual friend named Khyenrab in the land of eastern Kongpo. Mangalam! By the virtue of writing down this profound instruction of Mahamudra, may I and all beings as vast as space attain the state of Buddhahood. Good! Good! Auspicious! In the introduction to the instructions: In this Great Seal of Threefold Self-Arising, in the subsequent stage, after the uncommon experiences of mantra are mixed and the experience reaches its limit, it goes into the uncommon Great Seal of mantra, and from then on it is uncommon with Sutra. Jowo Gon Shang Tsalpa also considers this kind of Great Seal to be a word of commitment to the ground and path, saying, "The Great Seal is a word of commitment, and the delusion of calculating the ground and path is a mistake." Here it is said that if the previous threefold self-arising reaches its limit, it will become a great accumulation path; if the four faults of the main practice are self-liberated to the limit, the realization of the heat of the path of joining will arise; if the subsequent three bodies are self-arising to the limit, one will reach the forbearance of the path of joining; if the fruit reaches its limit, it is said to be the attainment of the first ground of the Sutra side and the union of the Mantra side. Even if the respective experiences of view and meditation of the Great Seal itself arise, if the accumulation of merit of the practice is not complete, that path is similar, not real. For example, guests cannot be invited sooner or later, they must go at the same time, and if one is not ready, one loses.

Even if all the groundworks are completed, just as one needs to wait a long time for it, all the preliminary practices transform into the natural ordinary awareness. Although one has obtained stability that is not harmed by distraction, if the accumulation of merit that accompanies view and meditation is not complete, only the qualities of the small and medium stages of the path of accumulation may arise. Great qualities, such as obtaining the four legs of miraculous powers, will not arise. If these two are in union, then those qualities will also arise. Among these, the preliminary practice is mainly the calm abiding of the Great Vehicle. During the main practice, not focusing on appearances and mind is itself the arising of a small clarity to the absence of inherent existence of what is grasped, so if one gains stability in this, and goes for a walk in the surroundings during breaks, it is the peak of the application path for the sake of increasing the appearance of Dharma. Afterwards, experiential self-arising is seeing the absence of inherent existence of what is grasped, and compassion arises for sentient beings who have not realized it in this way, so it is the forbearance of the application path. Gaining stability and immovability in this is also the reason why the manifest conceptual thoughts of clinging mind also cease, so it is the supreme Dharma of the application path. The arising of the realization of the result, called the self-arising of the union beyond mind, is the realization in the manner of directly manifesting the union of reality, which transcends the objects of sound and conceptual thought, from the moment of attaining the path of seeing, it is present in all the grounds of the noble ones, and the degree of stability, the unimpeded self-arising of activity, should be known as the three pure grounds from the eighth ground onwards. Thus, this is the answer to cutting doubts spoken by the venerable Tāranātha. Mangalam! A teaching manual called The Three Natural States of Mahamudra Gau.
