Explanation of the Noble Six Gates Dhāraṇī. Explanation of the Noble Six Gates Dhāraṇī. The Explanation of the Noble Six Gates Dhāraṇī is present. Oṃ Svāsti. Homage to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Now, to explain a little about the meaning of the Noble Six Gates Dhāraṇī Sūtra, there are three aspects: the introduction, the main body of the sūtra, and the subsequent rejoicing. First: "Thus have I heard at one time. The Blessed One was dwelling in the sky above the pure abode, adorned with the finest of the seven precious things, together with countless Bodhisattvas." This is it. In this, "Thus" refers to all the teachings that will come from below. "I heard" refers to the compiler, Vajrapani. "At one time" refers to an inconceivable time. "The Blessed One" refers to the Tathāgata Shakyamuni, the teacher. "The wandering of the retinue" refers to the house of assembly, the immeasurable palace adorned with the seven precious things. "Finest" means possessing many divisions of arrangement, the sacred place. So, where is that immeasurable palace located? Above the pure abode, that is, from the not-so-great to the smallest Akanishtha, the five abodes of the Hearer-Aryas are the small pure abodes. In the middle of the sky, far above those places, it is situated on a completely pure jewel ground. This is the great pure abode, having abandoned the pure abodes of the Lesser Vehicle, belonging to the Form Realm, the land revered by the great Lord, the son of the gods, the distinction of the place. The countless assembly of Bodhisattvas are those who dwell in that very place, enjoying with devotion the divine support, those who dwell on the ten bhūmis, those with mind-made bodies, and their emanations, the determination of the retinue. Thus, the Dharma and the compiler, the time and the teacher, the place and the region, and the determination of the retinue, the seven points, are shown in order. Second, there are four parts: advising to listen from the perspective of showing the need, the Six Gates Samādhi, explaining its dhāraṇī mantra, and the benefits of reciting the dhāraṇī mantra. First: At that time, the Blessed One to the Bodhisattva

He instructed them, saying: "Son of lineage, for the benefit and happiness of all beings, hold this dharani called 'Six Doors.' For the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, cultivate the samadhi of the Six Doors Dharani, and hold this dharani mantra, which must be recited. It is not for the sake of attaining the happiness of samsara and the inferior nirvana for oneself." Thus it is said. Although there are also explanations that benefit refers to the benefit of future lives, and happiness refers to the abundance of this life, here, benefit refers to all happiness, well-being, and wealth until one has not attained transcendent wisdom; happiness refers to all the perfections of the fields, bodies, samadhi, and miraculous powers from the time one attains transcendent wisdom onwards. The second is, "That is like this," which is a general instruction. "May it become," etc., the first five are each a unit of meaning, and the last two combined are one unit of meaning. What are those? They are the door of knowing suffering, the door of giving happiness, the door of confessing karmic obscurations, the door of abandoning demonic activities, the door of accumulating vast accumulations, and the door of true wisdom, these six doors. The first is, "May it not be that when I wander in samsara, whatever suffering I experience, I do not understand the nature of equality with all sentient beings." This means that when I wander in samsara, it refers to the state of an ordinary being. Not understanding the nature of equality is to say its fault. Regarding this, from three aspects, the fault of relying on means is that one does not want to experience suffering oneself and wants to abandon suffering, and the remedy for this is to wish to take on the suffering of others. From the aspect of wisdom, the fault is that one believes that one's own and others' suffering is truly existent, and therefore one is afraid and fearful of endless suffering, and one is unwilling to eliminate the suffering of others. The remedy for this is that all suffering of oneself and others does not exist in reality, so one should equally recognize that they are without self-nature. From the aspect of wisdom, the fault is that one clings to oneself as the most supreme, and slanders oneself, and despises others. The remedy for this is that oneself and others are all holders of the Tathagatagarbha.
