Oh! That commentator, according to the words of Lord Marpa, upon hearing the three words "Dasha Tathagata (ད་ས་ཐ་ག་ན།, Devanagari: दश तथागत, Romanized Sanskrit: daśa tathāgata, literal meaning: Ten Tathagatas)" and "Jayaṇa (ཛ་ཡ་ན།, Devanagari: जयन, Romanized Sanskrit: Jayaṇa, literal meaning: Victorious)" and "Nyimpa'i Metok (སྙིམ་པའི་མེ་ཏོག, Sanskrit待考, Romanized Sanskrit待考, literal meaning: Closed Flowers)," he would say that they are not holders of the Lama's oral instructions, and would not explain. As it is said, this is referring to those who show off the skills of a Paṇḍita, and it is not a satire of the Lamp. However, some scholars suspect this, and therefore are very unhappy with this statement. Although some say that Lord Marpa's explanation of the Lamp in Tibet is the same as the oral transmission, this is not true, because the handwriting of the Lamp is in the Marpa style. The explanation of the single Tantra is also a summary of the essence of the Lamp, so it should not be regarded as the bones of the Lamp and discarded. The uncommon aspects are the oral instructions such as the mantra wheel in the heart, and the classifications and oral instructions of mixing and transference, which are not transmitted in other traditions either. The so-called path of blessing refers to the lineage in which undeviated experiences arise from the oral instructions of all five stages, so that disciples also have the ability to immediately generate experiences. The name mentioned at the end of the text is: "A Clear Summary of the Meaning of the Five Stages," a secret oral instruction composed by glorious Naropa, which is completed by realizing it from the Lama's mouth. Some versions also have this colophon: "Translated, revised, and finalized by the great Indian Paṇḍita himself and the Tibetan translator Marpa Chokyi Lodrö." Here it is said: I have a slight understanding of the way all the Tantras abide, especially I have studied a little of the Guhyasamaja. I have also put in some effort into the texts of other traditions. I have seen most of the textual explanations of the Marpa tradition. This profound and supreme text is concise in words but very broad in meaning. Although I have not seen other commentaries, I have understood it by carefully examining the text. Because I explain after studying and understanding, wanting to be known as a scholar without studying will only please fools, and there will be no result without a cause. May the merit of slightly explaining the supreme path that pleases the Buddhas cause all sentient beings, as vast as the sky, to become equal to Vajradhara. Thus, this commentary on "A Clear Summary of the Five Stages" was blessed in body, speech, and mind by the Lord of the World, Taklung Thangpa, and the day of the qualities worthy of praise as the king of lineages, the summit of the golden mountain.

By the exhortation of the supreme and holy being who constantly manifests hundreds of thousands of deeds, this was composed by Gyalkhampa Taranatha. Since this treatise appears in the form of a summary, it is pleasing to see the meaning simply by analyzing the words. Therefore, the complete meaning is explained by way of supplementary remarks. Mangalam! By the power of the completely pure virtue of this endeavor, may I, when I abandon this body, be well-born in the retinue of the Kalki king in glorious Shambhala, and may I perform deeds for the Kalachakra teachings. This is the aspiration made by Dharma Lord Chokyi Namgyal. By this virtue, may I quickly attain the Sugata-garbha, the supreme other, relying on the profound means that can destroy the collection of sudden stains, life and downward expulsion, together with the channels. This is the aspiration made by the one endowed with the four reliances. To the Kalachakra Lama, inseparable, I pray for refuge with reverence. By the power of the extremely white virtue accumulated here, may I become a son of the Kalki in Shambhala, and may I bring great benefit to all the teachings and beings. This was also said by Mati. By accumulating merit and virtue, may I and other beings, in all lives, live well only with things in accordance with the Dharma, and may we not be transformed by any bad circumstances. This was also said by Mati. Commentary on the Condensed Clarification of the Five Stages
