Homage to the Guru Kagyupa Kunga Lhundrup! Homage to the Guru Kagyupa Kunga Lhundrup! Om Swasti! Om, may there be well-being!). Having bowed to the sacred lotus feet of the supreme Guru and the Victorious Ones of the three times, I will now gladly compose a brief exposition of profound instructions from the ocean of the nectar of the sacred Dharma. Thus, the Teacher, the Tathagata, taught countless doors to the sacred Dharma, not for the sake of belittling the words of others, nor for the sake of overpowering others, nor for the sake of extolling oneself, nor for the sake of propagating one's own side, but out of the very nature of great compassion without any aim, with equal love for all beings, in order to place them in the sacred enlightenment that they themselves have attained. Therefore, those who wish to practice the Dharma must necessarily have as their main goal the means by which they and others may attain the supreme state of enlightenment, Buddhahood. Furthermore, what should be the object of meditation when one first establishes and practices the Dharma? It is the suchness of reality. And one must be certain of this: all these phenomena, which are produced entirely by the delusion of ignorance and appear like a dream, are encompassed by the three realms of samsara. In terms of the reality of things, they have never existed from the very beginning. However, in the appearance of the deluded mind, the result inevitably arises from the collection of its own causes and conditions. Therefore, all phenomena encompassed by relative grasping and clinging are merely illusory appearances and have never existed from the very beginning. Although they do not exist in this way, as long as the appearance of delusion is not purified, even the subtle causes and effects of delusion itself will appear without confusion. This is the object for generating correct view from the very beginning. Having gained certainty in the infallibility of cause and effect, and having practiced abandonment and adoption as appropriate, one abides in the correct view of the world, blocking the door to the lower realms and opening the door to the higher realms. And by realizing that these appearances are merely illusions and have never existed from the very beginning, the thoughts of grasping at things as real and grasping at characteristics are purified in the sphere of reality, and transcendental wisdom is correctly generated, and the seeds of affliction

Also, one abandons the ground. Thus, although all phenomena of conventional grasping and clinging are not established from the beginning, this wisdom of the ultimate, true realm, the nature of reality, self-knowing, self-luminous, and free from elaboration, is true emptiness, the place of all that is knowable, naturally luminous, and called the Sugata-garbha. This is established from the beginning as the nature of all phenomena and is to be experienced by the wisdom of the noble ones. Therefore, it is the truth, and because it is unchanging, it is permanent and stable. Because the state of being is not inverted, it is Suchness, and it is unerroneous Suchness. Thus, the state of being is now truly established, eternal, and unchanging, yet it is free from all elaboration and cannot be expressed in words or grasped by the mind. Therefore, at the time of meditative equipoise, one should not meditate by conceptually thinking, "This is true, this is permanent." One should abide in non-conceptual meditative equipoise, without clinging to anything, abiding in a natural and unfabricated manner. The basis, the state of being of what is knowable, is thus the perfectly established nature of reality, the Sugata-garbha, which abides in all sentient beings. That itself is the nature of mind, and only that enters into the reality of things and exists. Other than that, all that appears and is spoken of by those in samsara, and all the phenomena of the path, are not established in the reality of things but are temporary. The key point of the basis being thus is that when practicing the path, one should temporarily conform to the appearance of delusion and know that all of the three realms of samsara are of the nature of suffering, impermanent, unstable, and decaying. The object of clinging to "I" and "mine," called self, is not established. These phenomena are empty of an agent and arise from the meeting of various causes and conditions. By repeatedly meditating on that meaning, all the pleasures of samsara are without essence. Therefore, a complete thought of wanting to definitely emerge from samsara will arise, and after that, one should generate the special thought of needing to liberate not only oneself but also all sentient beings from such impermanent, suffering, and essenceless samsara. Connected with love and compassion, by repeatedly meditating on that,
