Refutation of Other Systems Falling into Extreme Defamation. Refutation of Other Systems Falling into Extreme Defamation. Secondly, refuting the other systems that fall into the extreme of defamation: Some say that the ultimate Buddha is neither existent nor non-existent, neither both existent and non-existent, nor neither non-existent nor non-non-existent. They claim that this is the ultimate view of the Madhyamaka school. The reason for this is: Neither existent, nor non-existent, nor both existent and non-existent. Nor the nature of both. Liberation from the four extremes, this is the reasoning of the Madhyamaka. And they say: Neither existent, nor non-existent, nor both existent and non-existent, nor can anything other than existent and non-existent be conceived. They claim that this is what is taught. Many people in the past have taken these quotations literally, and even now, most scholars are following this view. To refute this, we will present a dozen refutations through scripture and reasoning in a gentle manner, and strike the head of wrong views with contradiction in a forceful manner. Presenting gentle scriptural and logical refutations: Firstly, it is true that the ultimate Buddha is not the second extreme of non-existence, because he is existent. The third extreme, neither existent nor non-existent, is also true, because existence and non-existence are contradictory. The fourth extreme, neither this nor that, will be determined below through refutation. The first extreme, that the ultimate Buddha is not existent, is actually a defamation of the Buddha. Many Sutras say that this is holding the secret doctrine of the Lokayata. Some say that the Lokayata believes that there is no karma, no past and future lives, and no omniscience. We do not believe that the ultimate Buddha exists, so we will not become holders of the secret doctrine of the Lokayata. Then, please answer this question. This is also the first of the ten refutations: If the ultimate Dharmakaya of the Buddha does not exist, then the ultimate Dharmakaya, which is the basis of the conventional Rupakaya, does not exist. If the Dharmakaya, the basis of the Rupakaya, does not exist, then the Dharma spoken by the Nirmanakaya does not exist. If the Dharma spoken by the Nirmanakaya does not exist, then the Sangha and practitioners who adopt and abandon the Dharma do not exist. Adopting and abandoning the Dharma

If there is no Khenpo (referring to someone proficient in Buddhist teachings), then there would be no one to adopt or reject actions based on cause and effect. If there is no one to adopt or reject actions based on cause and effect, then the results arising from adopting or rejecting actions based on cause and effect, such as heavens and liberation, samsara and evil destinies, etc., must be admitted as non-existent. Isn't this holding the secret doctrines of the Charvakas (materialists)? Among these arguments, the scriptural proof comes from the Condensed Perfection of Wisdom Sutra: "Without wisdom, there is no increase in qualities, and no enlightenment. The Buddha's teachings, like an ocean, would also not exist." etc. The rational arguments: It is impossible for a dependent to exist without a basis; it is impossible for something pervaded to exist without a pervader; it is impossible for a result to exist without a cause. If these are expressed as reductio ad absurdum arguments, they would become: the observation of no cause, the observation of no pervader, and the reductio ad absurdum argument of no self-nature, etc. Proving these from the perspective of examples: For example, if space does not exist, then space, which is the basis of wind, would not exist. If space, which is the basis of wind, does not exist, then the dependent wind would not exist. If the wind that relies on space does not exist, then the collection of water that relies on wind would not exist. If the collection of water that relies on wind does not exist, then the great earth that relies on the collection of water would not exist. If the great earth that relies on the collection of water does not exist, then the beings that rely on the earth would not exist. If the beings that rely on the great earth do not exist, then the actions of beings adopting or rejecting cause and effect would not exist, but this is not the case. "Above space, wind relies, upon it, the collection of water relies, upon it, this great earth relies, upon it, beings rely, the cause of beings creating karma is also like this." As it is said, because beings have the actions of adopting or rejecting cause and effect, therefore beings exist. Because beings exist, therefore the earth that beings rely on exists. Because the earth that beings rely on exists, therefore the collection of water that the earth relies on exists. Because the water that the earth relies on exists, therefore the wind that the water relies on exists. Because the wind that the water relies on exists, therefore the space that the wind relies on exists. Like this example, the results arising from adopting or rejecting cause and effect, such as heavenly realms, liberation, and samsaric evil
