Collection of Teachings by Tilopa TILO14: The Song of Inexhaustible Treasure of Instructions 1-6-6a The Song of Inexhaustible Treasure of Instructions In Sanskrit: Dohakosa Upadesagita Nama In Tibetan: The Song of Inexhaustible Treasure of Instructions Homage to Manjushri Kumara! Ema! Secret words of the Dakini! Those adorned with the creeper of existence! Are utterly dried up in the desert of sorrow by clinging to self! Like a young prince without a kingdom! Having no opportunity for happiness, it becomes a thorn in the mind! By examining, the future Suchness Wisdom Is separate from actions and not a work of thought. By shooting the arrow of self-knowledge, it is said, The heart of the wise becomes filled with poison. The true meaning of mind itself is difficult for all to realize. The essence without boundaries, without defilement, Is naturally pure from the beginning, not to be examined by all. If examined, it is merely treating a poisonous snake. All these phenomena established by the mind are empty of self. Being free from conditions, all examinations are non-existent. If one knows the Suchness abiding in its own nature, Then there is no seeing, hearing, etc., and it is devoid of its own nature. Clinging to things as real is said to be like livestock. Clinging to things as unreal becomes even more foolish. The examples of a lamp burning and extinguished are spoken of. The non-dual nature abides in the Great Seal. The arising of the real is pacified in the unreal. The wise one is separated from that side. If fools examine with their own minds, Instant liberation is called the Dharmakaya. Other than liberation, there is no great bliss ground. Even if children speak, it is like mirage water. Ground, path, and all Buddhas are of one taste. This is the innate wisdom; ask it in your heart. The person who understands in this way has no bonds. Not abandoning dust, nor slightly stained by dust. Where are affliction and antidote as two? The person who strives for that is bound in samsara. Earth, water, fire, wind, and space, Born together, are of one taste; there is no other. Not thinking of samsara and nirvana as two, This is said to be the nature of the Dharmadhatu. Ema! Secret words of the Dakini! Alas! Look at yourself with your own mind! If the unscattered mind is separated from the gods, The scattered mind will not realize it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The illusion of samsara! In the midst of the complexity of things, the jewel-like self-nature is lost. Do not be attached to desirable objects, for this is a disease that afflicts the supreme mind of great bliss. If your mind clings to the object of desire, the immaculate mind will be struck by the arrow of desire. Alas! Do not view cause and effect as dualistic. The cause and effect of the arising of things are not truly existent. If the yogi's mind is intoxicated by hope and fear, the co-emergent wisdom (lhan cig skyes pa'i ye shes) will be bound there. Alas! Do not say that the self-nature, which is devoid of inherent existence, can be cultivated. If you recognize the duality of what is to be cultivated and the cultivator, Then the mind that grasps at duality will abandon bodhicitta (byang chub sems), and that person will harm themselves. The drops of nectar from the guru's lips should be fully received by the wise forerunner. If skillful means are not employed at the right time, it is like a blind person stealing the king's treasure. Alas! A poor person without power is like an untouchable hoping to become king. Those who hold vidyadharas (rig pa 'dzin pa'i rgyud) are deceived there, and with the punishment of dakinis (mkha' 'gro), they fall into the vajra hell (rdo rje'i dmyal ba). Alas! Having taken the meaning of the supreme virtuous friend (dge ba'i bshes gnyen), they do not hold it sacred with a lowly mind, and completely abandon it. When beings are filled with delusion, they are merely torturing themselves for a long time. Alas! Entering the place of the teachings and not keeping vows is like the king seizing a person to be punished. The iron hook of karma seizes the life-force wind, and pouring boiling molten iron into the mouth is unbearable. Alas! Realizing the nature of reality and engaging in inferior conduct is like the king falling from the throne to become a servant. Abandoning the inexhaustible great bliss, merely touching the happiness of samsara binds one with that very touch. Having seen one's own mind, which is free from elaborations, the yogi who deliberately creates elaborations is like finding a precious jewel and then seeking rags. Even with effort, one will never reach the essence. Alas! The secret language of the dakinis! Through grasping and realizing bodhicitta (byang chub sems), the effortless wisdom that arises comes from the nectar of the mouths of the holy ones. It appears clearly in the middle of the sun and moon, and arises from the tip of the nose of a qualified practitioner. United with a qualified consort (phyag rgya), the mind becomes one. Forms and other phenomena arise from this.
