Rinchen Terdzod (《Great Treasure of Termas》) TD2457 The Lamp Illuminating the Stages of the Secret Mantra Path. The Stages of the Lotus Path, The Stages of the Path. In Indian language: Mantra Syapatha Krama La Nama. In Tibetan language: Named the Stages of the Secret Mantra Path. I prostrate with reverence to the Three Roots. Two Victors, Two Possessors, Two Transcenders, Two Supreme Glories, Complete Gathering, True and Without Deceit, Buddha Sugata, Sixth All-Gathering Good, I prostrate through the door of reverence and longing. The Self-Nature Yogi, Orgyen Padmasambhava, The Vajra Vehicle, the Path of Liberation in One Lifetime, For the sake of future fortunate yogis, I write the Lamp of Precious Stages of Practice. Grasping the abiding nature and the deluded nature with their own essence, is the non-dual, spontaneously accomplished, primordially enlightened Buddha. The essence is ignorance, afflictions arise from suffering. Taking the five perfections as the basis for accomplishment, not valuing the faults and virtues of rocks, forests, charnel grounds, caves, etc., possessing faith, reverence, empowerment, vows, wisdom, and confidence. Entering into practice on auspicious days, stars, and waxing moons, preparing food, medicine, offerings, and gathering substances, without distraction, with one-pointedness, exerting effort to the utmost. The order of the protective circles of the yogi is: Meditating so that sentient beings attain supreme enlightenment, protecting with the deity's name, vajra, wheel, weapons, and fire. Meditating on the body, speech, and mind syllables of the deity, meditating on Chenrezig, Manjushri, or whichever yidam. Meditating on the vajra ground, tent, and arrow fire, abiding in the state of non-objectification of subject and object. Entering the path through the five key points: the common, special, and supreme three refuges, reciting the hundred-syllable mantra, making offerings, confessing, and fulfilling. Meditating on leisure and endowment, karma and its effects, impermanence, and faults, offering the mandala of practice and offering, accumulating the two accumulations with various skillful means and tormas. Giving constant tormas, three, seven, eleven, etc., offering the pure seven branches and outer, inner, and secret offerings, these are the preliminaries to the secret mantra path. Establishing the three trainings as the basis of the path: abandoning unfavorable actions, generating renunciation, abiding in equanimity, and recognizing one's own nature. Śīla (Sanskrit: Śīla, Sanskrit Romanization: Śīla, Chinese literal meaning: Precept), Samādhi (Sanskrit: Samādhi, Sanskrit Romanization: Samādhi, Chinese literal meaning: Concentration), Prajñā (Sanskrit: Prajñā, Sanskrit Romanization: Prajñā, Chinese literal meaning: Wisdom) three studies. Seizing harm and wrong views with special methods, seeing the meaning of truth, becoming accustomed to it, not transgressing it, and proclaiming eighty-four thousand teachings through the power of antidotes. Entering the path through the three minds: seeing the wish-fulfilling jewel as parents, meditating on bliss, seeing all sentient beings as parents, and having compassion for their suffering. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Think of liberating from suffering, take and accomplish the aspiration to attain Buddhahood, the three minds, three categories, three trainings, and three practices converge in one mind. Especially, the essence of the Secret Mantra path is: bestow the four empowerments of vase, secret, wisdom, and great bliss, visualize the outer and inner worlds as palaces and deities, transcend the duality of arising and ceasing, naturally arise, and transcend boundaries. By restraining the three key points, non-thought naturally dawns, practice individual, common, secret, and truthful actions, offer the five vows of equality, post-attainment, food, holding, and protection. These are the essence of the Secret Mantra path. Practice through the five yogas: sleep in the non-thought Dharmakaya, purify the thought of death; arise from the non-ceasing Sambhogakaya, purify the thought of birth; bless with the nectar of the four empowerments, enjoy food and drink; hold with various methods and transform it into the path; be vigilant in the morning and evening, birth, death, and Bardo. Explaining how to eliminate the four obstacles of this path: adjust the three states of sinking and excitement and transform them into the path; identify and correct the root, conditions, and results of diseases; in the state of non-fabrication, eliminate interruption and arising; avoid harmful foods, cut off sexual activity, and abandon dependence; eliminate the manifestation of white, red, and black 'Hūṃ' (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: seed syllable), the upside-down demons; cut off the distinction between self and others, fear, and sexual activity; eliminate the four pollutions of broken vows, companions, dwellings, and food. Transform the essence of this path into the key: eliminate the root of error with clinging thoughts; strongly practice the basis of merit; if one's own path does not progress, let others elevate it; seize the key of afflictions and transform it into the path; transform conceptual thoughts into the path and transform it into progress. These are the conditions and components of the path. The manifest fruit of the ultimate realization of this path is: the five bodies, five speeches, five minds, qualities, and activities; dependent and independent, the essence is naturally accomplished; abide in one and different, in non-duality; observe whether the view is established, true or false; this is the near path to attain Buddhahood in this life, the definite Dharma that clearly shows one's own nature, the chariot tradition that possesses both skillful means and wisdom, the supreme and victorious path that overcomes defeat. By this virtue, may all sentient beings enter the path of maturation and liberation, may self-arisen awareness eliminate obscurations and faults, and may they quickly attain the perfect and complete Buddhahood. The Lamp Illuminating the Precious Stages of the Secret Mantra Path, written by the great master of Oddiyana, Padmasambhava, is completed. This was collated based on the handwriting of the Vidyadhara master. Recovered as treasure by Nyang Nyima Özer. May the Buddha's teachings flourish, may the country be peaceful and happy, and may all the Buddha's children accomplish their wishes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
