Padling Dzogchen: A Concise Written Record of the Key Points of the Precious Quintessential Meaning Instructions on the Kunzang Gongpa Kundu (All-Encompassing Wisdom of Samantabhadra). Homage to the glorious Samantabhadra (普贤,Kunzang,समन्तभद्र,Samantabhadra,普贤) in the primordial pure expanse! Here is a written record of how to obtain the precious quintessential meaning instructions on the secret mantra All-Encompassing Wisdom. First, the difficulty of obtaining leisure and fortune: This precious human body with eight leisures and ten fortunes is difficult to obtain, considering and examining it in terms of cause, number, and essence. The fact that we have obtained it is a great fortune and merit. Think of it as rare from the heart. Second, impermanence of death: It is not enough to obtain leisure and fortune. There is no certainty when this will die, and it will certainly die. There is no way to reverse death. It is also a great fortune that I have not died so far. Now, even just for today or tomorrow, there is no certainty that I will not die. Meditate with a burning heart and the hairs of the body standing on end. Third, taking the suffering of samsara (轮回,'khor ba,संसार,Saṃsāra,轮回) as a path, the teaching of cause and effect: It is not enough to die like that. It would be tolerable if one did not feel any happiness or suffering after death. But that is not the case. From the cause of virtue comes the result of happiness, and from non-virtue comes the result of suffering. For example, from a sweet seed comes a sweet fruit, and from a bitter one comes a bitter fruit. The law of cause and effect is infallible, and it is proven by direct perception. Now, it is important for us to avoid confusion in accepting and rejecting virtue and sin, the cause of happiness and suffering, because we want happiness and do not want suffering. Thinking about the suffering of samsara is unbearable, so one must abandon sin. Even ordinary people value cause and effect, and if they do not, they are not considered civilized. Especially religious people, and especially great meditators, cannot do anything if they do not value cause and effect, so this is the teaching of cause and effect. Fourth, the teaching of the four immeasurables, cultivating loving-kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta Since all sentient beings have been our parents, we should cherish and love all sentient beings as we cherish and love our mothers. Let alone holding them as enemies, we should not even leave them in indifference. Loving-kindness like a hen warming eggs, caring for sentient beings like a mother. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meditate on compassion like that of a butcher, joy like finding a lost child, and equanimity like a hermit hosting a guest. Coordinate with the breath, exchanging one's own happiness for the suffering of other beings, thinking that all beings are endowed with happiness and free from suffering, this is the guidance of loving-kindness and compassion. Fifth, taking refuge: If one does not take refuge, one cannot enter the gate of the Buddha's teachings and cannot be liberated from samsara, so taking refuge is very important. Therefore, the benefits and reasons for taking refuge mentioned here are the same as in general. Clearly visualize the field of merit for refuge: In front of oneself, visualize a wish-fulfilling tree, with flowers covering the sky, branches covering the space, and roots covering the earth. On the tree is a large precious throne covered with silk. On the throne are lotus and sun-moon cushions, and one's own root guru dwells on it. The guru is not old and decrepit, but in the prime of life, with his right hand at his heart in the teaching mudra, and his left hand holding a book of profound instructions in the meditation mudra, sitting in the vajra posture. He wears a lotus hat and dharma robes, etc. He abides as if one were seeing him directly now. On the crown of the guru's head is Tenzin Sridzhi Namgyal, in the attire of a bhikshu vajra holder. On his crown is Tukse Tenzin Chokyi Nyima, with his right hand in the teaching mudra and his left hand in the meditation mudra, abiding in the attire of an ordained monk. Alternatively, these two venerable ones did not come in succession, but received empowerments and liberation directly from the two gurus. Since I have received empowerments and liberation from both venerable ones, it is also acceptable to meditate on the two Tukses as inseparable and one. On his crown is Tenzin Drubchok Dorje, wearing a pandita hat on his head as a symbol of his omniscience, holding a rosary of bodhicitta in his hands, and abiding in the attire of a bhikshu. To his right and left are the two venerable Gyatsa and Lobpon, in the attire of ordained monks, with their realization of the essence of experience manifest, and their knowledge and conduct without high or low distinction. On the crown of Drubchok Dorje is Gyurme Chokdrub Palbar, with his hands crossed at his heart holding a vajra and bell, and wearing dharma robes. On his crown is Ngawang Kunzang Dorje, with his hair loose and scattered behind him, holding a damaru and bell in his hands, wearing a long-sleeved empowerment robe, dharma robes, and a lotus hat, etc., and his mind abiding in bliss and emptiness. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
