Great Treasure Trove TD2145, Manuscript of Hayagrīva Ritual: Rain of Clear Understanding. Extensive Activity Section, Hayagrīva. Homage to Guru Padmakrodha Hayagrīva! I prostrate to Amitābha (Sanskrit: Amitābha, meaning immeasurable light) and the King Hayagrīva (Sanskrit: Hayagrīva, meaning horse-necked)! This is a concise written record of the practice instructions for the Rain of Clear Understanding ritual, which summarizes the meaning of the twenty-five Hayagrīvas and others. First, above, set up a glorious torma (Tibetan: dpal gtor, meaning glorious torma) of Hayagrīva, with the top of the torma in a triangular shape, decorated with a horse head, sun and moon, jewels, and flames. Arrange offerings of nectar, medicine, blood, and the seven offerings. On a white base, draw an eight-petaled lotus with barley. In the center, place precious vessels such as copper containers. Fill them with grains, and place a triangular glorious torma on top. Decorate the three sides with jewels, and have triangular flames burning. On the top, decorate with a sword, a Dharma wheel, and blazing flames. If unable to obtain these, decorate with the sun and moon, three stars, and jewels. Offer butter, tsampa balls, and flowers like a rain falling. Erect nine or seven butter lamp pillars, and around them, in the direction of the eight petals, set up ten identical small tormas. In the northeast direction, make a flat, crescent-shaped tsampa torma, with the center carved out in a triangle, filled with blood or red earth. Place a torma similar to the one in front on top of it, and to the left and right of the torma, place a tsampa bowl and a butter lamp; this is Kubera (Sanskrit: Kubera, meaning guardian of wealth). It is also fine if you are unable to obtain a cushion and butter lamps. The assembly torma (Tibetan: skong gtor) is placed on top of a four-tiered Mount Sumeru (Sanskrit: Sumeru, meaning Mount Meru), with precious burning objects and all the assembly offerings inserted on top. Surround it with the shapes of the four continents and eight subcontinents. The offering torma (Tibetan: gsol ka) is placed in precious vessels and clean plates, like the main torma in front, decorated with red and green silk and tsampa balls. Place the assembly torma on the right and the offering torma on the left. The torma offerings include small white tormas, divine food, etc. Offer the essence of tsampa, grains, tea, wine, milk, yogurt, butter, tsampa, delicacies, and various foods. Make every effort to prepare all kinds of offerings, ensuring they are clean and exquisite. It is essential to pay attention to the offering as if setting up a representation of the deity. In front of the main Hayagrīva painting, place an unused, flawless clay vase. Draw auspicious symbols and emblems of royal power on the outside. Fill it with grains, silk, jewels, and medicines. Take a blue foal with four black hooves, take the hollow blood vessel from its dried heart, write the heart mantra and long mantras on blue paper with gold ink, roll up the paper, and insert it into a ruby. Place five kinds of jewels, such as gold and turquoise, into the eyes of the blue horse. Mix five kinds of earth, five kinds of water, and five kinds of incense, and make a burning jewel from the clay, and place it all in the vase. The mouth of the vase is wrapped with five-colored silk threads, decorated with peacock feathers, and sealed with a jewel ornament on top. Cover it with silk, and place it in a clean place. Once these preparations are complete, invite the wisdom deity to descend. The right hand holds a curved knife, the left hand holds a skull bowl, wearing human skin as clothing, and adorned with snakes. Trampling on obstacles, abiding in the flames of wisdom. From one's own heart, emit light, inviting all the Buddhas of the ten directions, and Hayagrīva. Descend here, and merge into oneself. Om Vajra Samaya Dza Hum Become the wisdom deity, abiding on a lotus and moon disc. From the heart, emit a red 'Ksha' (Tibetan: 舍，Sanskrit: kṣaḥ, Sanskrit Romanization: kshah, meaning to destroy). The 'Ksha' emits light, purifying all sins and obstacles. Then retract it, the 'Ksha' transforms into Hayagrīva. After praising in this way, recite the prayer: May the blessings of Hayagrīva, eliminate all diseases and disasters, increase merit and wisdom, and accomplish all activities and wishes. After praying in this way, recite the mantra to complete omissions: Om Vajra Samaya Sarva Yatata Samaya Ah Hum Phet Svaha After reciting, recite the dedication: By this merit, may all beings, quickly attain the state of Hayagrīva, liberate all sentient beings, and establish them all in the state of Buddhahood.
