Obstacles be destroyed, interruptions be cut off. Oh! For the sake of all sentient beings equal to the sky, to attain the state of perfect Buddhahood, and to temporarily pacify the adverse conditions and obstacles in practicing the Dharma, and for the sake of accomplishing all wishes without hindrance, I will receive the profound empowerment of the Wisdom Red Garuda, generating the supreme Bodhicitta. The conduct of listening to the Dharma should also be properly conducted as stated in the precious Sutras and Tantras, and then listen. Generally, there are many kinds of Garudas. Among them, the worldly Garuda is called 'Sky Soarer', residing on the treetops on the outer seashore, with four lineages. They feed on the Nagas of the four places of birth, and their nature is extremely violent. When they die, their bodies burn, incinerating all the forests. Their hearts turn into jewels, drifting three times on the sea, and then are taken by the Naga kings to be worn as head ornaments, seeking liberation from the fear of the Sky Soarer. The most important of these is called 'Golden-Eyed Sky Soarer'. It is said that he is one of the outer eight classes, a Upasaka who has seen the Bhagavan and obtained the Dharma. The soaring Garudas held in the heads and hands of the wrathful deities are the antidote to subduing the Nagas, the Garuda emanated from the illusion of wisdom. Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Shravakas, etc., also transform their bodies into the form of Garuda because they are in the Samadhi of subduing the Nagas. These are the Wisdom Garudas. Now, according to the history of this Red Garuda, in the past countless eons ago, there was a Chakravartin king who had a thousand sons and three daughters. All of them generated Bodhicitta, made offerings to the Buddhas, and made aspirations to benefit sentient beings. Therefore, the thousand Buddhas of the Fortunate Aeon and the three daughters also became Vajrapani (金刚手菩萨), who protects the Dharma, Brahma (梵天), who requests the turning of the Dharma wheel, and this Garuda who subdues the evil. He aspired to be the one who dwells on the earth, subduing the Nagas in the teachings of the thousand Buddhas of the Fortunate Aeon. By the power of aspiration, he will ultimately attain Buddhahood in the realm of 'Source of Inexhaustible Crown Wisdom Light' in the upper world. It is said that the Nagas he has now devoured will be reborn as gods in the Form Realm and eventually become the retinue of the Buddha.
