Liberation! The merits of that pure land are beyond description. If someone holds the name of that pure land, generating faith and supreme joy, it is said that they will be born in that supreme pure land. Therefore, generate great reverence. I am so-and-so, I am the one who guides you to the supreme path. On the path between here (the bardo) and that pure land, there will be those who call out loudly, saying, 'I am your parents!', 'I am your friends!'. Do not respond to those calls. Do not look back. Do not be attached to the nearby sights. Do not let suffering occupy your mind. Go to the Sukhavati Pure Land! Alas! Deceased so-and-so, listen! From here, you must go to the Sukhavati Pure Land in the western world. There, the Bhagavan Amitabha (Amitābha) is surrounded by a multitude of Bodhisattvas and noble Sangha, constantly turning the wheel of Dharma. Son of noble family, go forth with the gait of a lion! Look back with the gaze of an elephant! With your mind filled with longing for that pure land, do not be confused, arrive in an instant like an arrow shot! Go forth with one-pointedness! Keep that great, eternal Sukhavati Pure Land in your mind! Om Padme Padme Padma Sambhave Maha Sukhavati Gacchantu Svaha! Om Padme Padme Padma Sambhave Maha Sukhavati Gacchantu Svaha,May you go to the Great Blissful Land) Merely by generating sincere faith and longing for the principal figures of Sukhavati, Amitabha and his retinue, their body, speech, and mind will radiate rays of compassion, extending like a stretched rainbow. May the deceased grasp that ray, be lifted by the (lotus) stem, and dissolve into the lotus flower in front, may you obtain a body of miraculous birth! Phat! Phat! Phat! In the single generation stage, visualize the benefactor as the deity, yourself inseparable from the deity. At the forehead, there is a white Om (ཨོཾ,ॐ,Om,perfection); at the throat, there is a red Ah (ཨཱཿ,आः,Āḥ,arising); at the heart, there is a blue Hum (ཧཱུྃ,हुं,Hūṃ,subduing); at the navel, there is a yellow Svaha (སྭཱ་,स्वा,Svā,well-gone); at the secret place, there is a green Ham (ཧཾ,हं,Haṃ,swan); at the crown of the head, there is a grey Ksha (ཀྵ,क्ष,Kṣa,emptiness), visualize yourself wearing a vajra armor. Om Hrih Mam Namah Kaya Vaka Citta Raksha Raksha Svaha! (ཨོཾ་ཧྲཱི་མཾ་ན་མཿཀཱ་ཡ་ཝཱ་ཀ་ཙིཏྟ་རཀྵ་རཀྵ་སྭཱ་ཧཱ།,ॐ ह्रीं मं नमः काय वाक चित्त रक्ष रक्ष स्वाहा,Om Hrīṃ Maṃ Namaḥ Kāya Vāka Citta Rakṣa Rakṣa Svāhā,Protect body, speech, and mind) Accumulate merit like a mountain... May you live a hundred years, etc. This was written by the attendant Choepel, focusing on the meaning for those near death, the two great liberation gates and the Kunrig Great Rite, as well as the two expanded and condensed versions of the Akshobhya Buddha ritual written by Je Mikyo Zhap and Chokyi Wangchuk, as well as the elaborate guide for the deceased in the Kalachakra written by the great scholar Buton, and the seven-branch ritual for the deceased from the Great Compassionate Guhyasamaja, and the meaning of the generation stage ritual written by Gyaltsap Drakpa Choyang. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
