Da Bao Fu Zang TD1630 'The Rite of Consecrating the Three Supports: The Auspicious Wish-Fulfilling Jewel'. General Section. Consecration. 'The Rite of Consecrating the Three Supports: The Auspicious Wish-Fulfilling Jewel'. Explanation of the Basis to be Known: 'The Rite of Consecrating the Three Supports: The Auspicious Wish-Fulfilling Jewel'. Om Swasti! 'The Rite of Consecrating the Three Supports: The Auspicious Wish-Fulfilling Jewel'. Homage to Glorious Vajrasattva! All-pervading, immutable, great bliss, Vajra Mind, With peaceful and wrathful dances in the cycle of existence and peace. Inconceivable manifestations, bestowing merit and, Supreme wisdom, I bow to the glorious Lama. Primordial, co-emergent wisdom pervades all, Awakening, Sugata's appearance, wisdom's, Mudras, blessing the arrangement of the consecration rite, To accomplish auspicious wishes, I proclaim. Herein are two: Explanation of the basis to be known, and the order of putting the explained Dharma into practice. The first has seven: the nature of consecration, the supports to be consecrated, the necessity of consecration, the Acharya who consecrates, the place where it is done, the time when it is done, and the ritual of what is done. First, the nature: As the great Acharya stated in the 'Joyful Gathering Consecration': 'Should be done, should not be done, showing the two.' Thus, all phenomena of Samsara and Nirvana are primordially pure in nature, spontaneously accomplished qualities, the supreme immutable Dharmata, like the sky, the state of abiding pervading all. If based on the view of those who understand, then as the former said: 'If the meaning of Dharmata emptiness is realized, who, with what, where does one consecrate? Primordially unborn, unarisen, how, how does one consecrate? In the clear light unborn of all Dharmas, those with realization, the places of offering, do not need consecration.' Also, like the supports of Buddha images, etc., are manifestations of the compassion of the Tathagatas, transformed into the mudras of body, speech, and mind. If based on the view of those with faith, also as the former said: 'Also, if the meaning of emptiness is not realized, Buddha images, scriptures, and stupas, etc., from the blessings of Buddha's manifestations, arise, otherwise they do not arise. If one understands this and has deep faith, there is no need for consecration.' Thus, if these two meanings are not understood, in order to establish common disciples in the place of the two accumulations, the ritual of consecration is necessary, that is: 'Abiding in worldly convention, it is to show the conventional meaning.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As explicitly stated in the distinctions of certainty, it is also said in the contemplation of consecration: 'All Buddhas reside, there is nowhere they do not reside, relying on conventional truth, it is nominally established as residing.' This is its essence: gathering the great qualities of the Buddhas, making any support a virtuous and auspicious thing. In the 'Wrathful One Contemplation' it says: 'Having built the body image of the Victorious One, worship it respectfully as the Victorious One, the Able One, having thus beheld it, protects sentient beings.' Also, as stated in the 'Guhyagarbha Tantra': 'The supports of body, speech, and mind, possess the blessings of integrating wisdom, the place of the five aggregates of samsara, are the very nature of body, speech, and mind.' This is its meaning. From the word 'Supratiṣṭhāvidhi', it is the ritual of accomplishing well and making it last long. Because the support is accomplished as the nature of the wisdom deity, it is good; because it makes it exist until the end of samsara, it is long-lasting. Both of these are related to inviting, abiding, and firmly abiding the wisdom being, therefore it is called the consecration ritual. 'Su' is good, 'Prati' is each, 'ṣṭhā' is abiding, it can also be understood as abiding in the nature of each support. As stated in the 'Vajra Arrangement Sutra': 'The body image of the Thus Gone One, for the cause of endless liberation, one should invite and abide the Buddhas.' Second, regarding the support on which to abide: In the contemplation, exemplified by beating, writing, carving, etc., the support of the body is the appearance of the Thus Gone One, peaceful and wrathful; the support of speech is the scriptures of the complete Buddhas and noble ones; the support of mind is the support of the Dharmakaya, generally called stupas, specifically the eight great stupas, etc.; in addition, there are temples, decorations, and implements, etc. All of these must possess the characteristics of their respective shapes and decorations, etc., and must meet the standards. As the scripture says: 'The body image is complete with marks, possessing peaceful and other demeanors, conforming to the standards of measurement and being beautiful, such should be consecrated.' Third, the necessity of consecration is divided into two aspects: merits and faults. First, if the support has not been consecrated, or has been consecrated with an incomplete ritual, it will not be auspicious, nor will it become a field for accumulating merit. As the scripture says: 'If the body image is complete, abiding for a long time without being blessed, then inauspicious things will occur, it should not be offered.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
