Da Bao Fu Zang TD1578, entitled 'A Garland of Lotuses: A Clarification of the Materials for Accomplishment, Offerings, and Completion, Which are Generally Needed for the Activities of Practice, Accomplishment, Empowerment, and Mandala'. General essentials for practice and accomplishment. For those who are controlled by the other powers of the mind, which is the wrong side of conventional truth, Therefore, with the key of dependent origination, untie the knot of defilements, In the great and complete mandala, place them in the state of liberation, I prostrate to the Guru, the embodiment of the three roots, who accomplishes these activities. For the young mantra practitioners with little knowledge, For the sake of the necessities in the practice of secret mantras, Here are some indispensable items collected, And the methods of collecting and practical steps are clearly stated. In short, the general meaning of all great practices is contained in the five perfections of place, time, retinue, and resources. The so-called perfection of resources, as Orgyen Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) said: 'Food, medicine, offerings, and materials for completion should be accumulated.' Master Shantarakshita said: 'Clothes, ornaments, food and drink, and secret things, the five implements of practice. Mandala implements, offering materials, supports for accomplishment, and averting obstacles, should all be collected purely.' Among these many teachings, first, what is most indispensable and suitable for practice is, as Padmasambhava said: 'The offerings please the Sugatas, the completion materials satisfy the oath-bound ones, and the accumulation of practice materials brings blessings.' Therefore, the accumulation of practice materials is of utmost importance. The so-called practice materials are the supports for the body— A skull with characteristics, or a painted image. Although its detailed characteristics are not elaborated here, for the sake of brevity, a few are mentioned: It should be a complete piece, the color matching the deity's family, or white or yellow. Whatever the color, it should be oily, thick, and heavy. The shape should be round, corresponding to the four activities of pacifying, increasing, magnetizing, and subjugating, not tilted, self-elevated, thick, and the outer shape opposite to itself. Inside, there should be tree leaves growing, with the tips facing inward. It should possess the yogi's life-force, wish-fulfilling vase, Brahma's aperture, elephant tusks, etc., and be connected to itself. It should be free from defects such as wormholes. Generally, a shape without a wasp waist or cracks, which is unpleasant at first sight, is not good. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The five products of the cow are essential, as stated in 'Perfecting the Completion of Various Rituals': 'The milk of a reddish-brown cow, the yogurt of a cow, and the butter of a cow, the urine of a cow and the dung of a cow.' According to the practice of Sanggye Sangwa, 'First, on the large or small mandala, spread a thick layer of butter. The amount of dung is twenty times, and the milk and yogurt are three times the butter. First, squeeze the dung, first soak it in water and then squeeze it. Then filter it with a sieve, and mix them together. Leave it for two to three days, and then wrap it in a cloth, applying it every two days for seven days.' Therefore, butter is used as the basis for mixing, and the other four products are mixed in proportion. Although the reason for boiling is not explained, 'Victory Over Enemies' states: 'Boil a clean container and pour out the water. Do not throw away the residue, but use the substance in the middle.' Either way seems acceptable. However, the current practice is that ancient scholars said: 'The butter, milk, yogurt, dung, and urine of a cow that eats clean grass in a monastery are called the five products of the cow, as the Buddha said.' The five products of a cow that eats harvested grass and mash, etc., various impure things, are ineffective. Therefore, 'clean' is emphasized. Since it is difficult to find these things when needed, there is a ritual for making pills. Do not let the dung fall on the ground, dry it in the sun, and dry it in the shade. Mix urine into it and dry it again. Do this three times. Then mix butter, milk, and yogurt, make pills the size of bird eggs, and dry them in the shade. This is the oral transmission of the lama.' As it is said, if you cannot find a reddish-brown cow that is the firstborn calf, use a newly calved reddish-brown cow, feed it clean food, and let it consume grass and water from clean land. Do not let the dung and urine fall on the ground, collect clean water in a clean container, boil the dung, and take its juice. After drying it in the sun, mix cow's urine and dry it. After drying, pounding, and mixing three times, mix twenty parts of cow dung, three times as much milk and yogurt as butter, and make pills. When needed, mix it with perfume and use it. It is said that a cow with all the characteristics has a medicine called 'elephant essence,' which has five qualities: it can overcome evil spirits and obstacles, eliminate diseases, smells fragrant, can control beings, and is very clean. Therefore, it produces corresponding qualities.
