Great Treasure of Termas TD1538, A concise and easy-to-understand instruction on the symbolism and establishment of supports in Torma (Tibetan: གཏོར་མ་, offering). Concerning Dharma Protectors, Establishing Supports. Namo Vajradharaya (Sanskrit: ब्ज्रधरय,Vajradhāra, the Diamond Holder)! Here, to please the great oath-bound ones who protect the teachings, whatever order of activities is mentioned in their respective tantras and methods of accomplishment. Among these, for the immediate need, some instructions are combined in a way that they can generally be applied to various rituals. First, explaining the basis of all activities—the Torma—and the ritual of reliance. First, the great scholar said: 'If you do not know the Torma of reliance, the gods and demons of existence will not be subdued; if you do not know the extraordinary Torma, the wisdom dakinis will not be pleased; if you do not know the swift Torma, even if you expel them, they will not leave.' Therefore, there are five points here: classification, necessity, arrangement, blessing, and how to hold it. First, classification: The Torma of reliance, abiding long as the essence of the Dharma Protector; the regular Torma, abiding as an object of veneration and offering at fixed times of the year and month; the occasional Torma, offered as a reward during the intervals of rituals for any of the three activities (pacifying, increasing, subjugating). Second, necessity: The Torma of reliance makes the Dharma Protector abide firmly, so there are no obstacles and the accomplishments of the four activities are swift; the messengers (Tibetan: ཕོ་ཉ་) are controlled; the regular Torma increases the power of the Dharma Protector's activities and swiftly brings temporary and ultimate results; the occasional Torma pleases the Dharma Protector and swiftly brings temporary desires. Third, how to arrange it, there are three points. First, the materials for the Torma of reliance: black barley flour without sand or dust, taken from oneself or someone with vows, mixed with the five meats and five elixirs. To increase food and wealth, add jewels and various grains and meats. To pacify diseases, add various medicines. For swift and fierce activities, add sharp objects such as knives and blood, as well as the essence of earth, flower pollen, etc., mixed with ashes. Spread it on leather or a similar container, and write three-stacked Om (Tibetan: ཨོཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओम्, Sanskrit Romanization: Om, Perfection), Ah (Tibetan: ཨཱཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: आः, Sanskrit Romanization: Āḥ, Unborn), Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: Hūṃ, Wrathful). From it, radiate white, red, and blue light, and invite the white, red, and blue nectars of the body, speech, mind, and wisdom of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and their retinues, and dissolve them into the three syllables. The three syllables dissolve into the light of the Hum syllable in order, and the light of the Hum syllable mixes with the nature of the nectar into the Torma material. After visualizing, recite the three syllables a hundred times. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, prepare the Torma (藏语:གཏོར་མ་, a sacrificial food). Mix pure butter with a little milk, yogurt, and brown sugar, along with the essence of excellent wine infused with Dharma medicine (藏语:ཆོས་སྨན་) (the amount of wine is about one-fifth of the butter), and pure blood washed with various meats, hearts, and spices (the amount of blood is about one-quarter of the butter), to make a not-too-hard Tsampa dough. In a precious lotus vessel, place the principal deity's round and majestic Torma, or the auspicious Torma. On the well-made iron castle-shaped Torma, place the principal deity's triangular Torma. In front of the not-too-sharp Torma, place the consort's triangular Torma, and in front of its root and on its left and right sides, place triangular Tormas, and behind it, place a right-spiraling triangular Torma. In each corner, place small Tormas and eight finger rings. The lower two-thirds of the four-armed Torma is round, and the upper one-third is triangular, making a not-too-sharp auspicious Torma. A similar Dharma protector Torma, but it should be sharp and prominent. The four-faced Torma is placed on a four-tiered Mount Meru-like platform, and on it, place the principal deity's triangular heart-shaped Torma. On the four sides of the first tier, place the four Karma deities. At the base of the tier, place countless triangular Tormas. For hermaphrodites and Vaishravana, make triangular Tormas with armpits. For the Great God, make a four-petaled lotus Torma like a precious ear of grain. For Vishnu, make a right-spiraling Torma. For the field-protecting mother goddess, make triangular knife-cut Tormas, These Tormas should not be smaller than one cubit and should be made majestically. Finally, make Tormas equal to the number of their respective retinues, with a size of one-third of the principal deity's Torma, and at the end of it, place many finger rings with the cut facing outward, making the Torma vessel appear full and leaning outward. Smear and glue each corner with thin butter. Fill the gaps with various grains, medicines, spices, meat juices, sugar, and other foods. Use an iron or bamboo hollow tube as the core life force, and inside it, place their respective life wheels and mantras. Finally, recite: 'From now until attaining the state of enlightenment, you and I have the same vows, and I regard you as my reliance, so please reside here, as the protector of the temple and the guardian of the Dharma. Pacify all obstacles, fulfill all wishes as desired, impartially propagate activities, perfect auspicious coincidences, destroy all hostile forces and evil forces, and quickly attain the state of omniscient Buddha.' Write these words with prayers in gold powder or pure cinnabar, and apply Dharma medicine and spices, then perform the generation stage and completion stage practices. Visualize mantra light emitting from the offerings, and wrap silk threads starting from the head. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
