Minling practice manual. ༄། །Preliminary. ༄༅། །'The Playful Ocean of Activities and Accomplishments of the Great Oath-Bound Protectors of the Doctrine'. 39-30-1b Namo Vajradharaya (藏文:ན་མོ་བཛྲ་དྷཱ་ར་ཡ།,梵文天城体:नमो वज्रधराय,梵文罗马拟音:Namo Vajradharaya,汉语字面意思:Homage to Vajradhara). Named 'The Playful Ocean of Accomplishments, a Practice Manual for the Vajra Dharma Protectors'. I prostrate with reverence at the lotus feet of the all-pervading Heruka (藏文:ཧེ་རུ་ཀ,梵文:Heruka,汉语字面意思:Blood Drinker) Supreme Lord. From the beginning, pure and unchanging, playing in the net of illusion, the compassionate essence, the wrathful form, the terrifying illusion, the power of the wrathful one, enemies and obstacles drunk with blood, the fierce steps shaking the three realms, may that Heruka (藏文:ཧེ་རུ་ཀ,梵文:Heruka,汉语字面意思:Blood Drinker) hero crush the brains of the demon hordes. The prophesied words of his accomplished activity, here and elsewhere, bestow supreme bliss, snatching away all the faults of existence, the birth of nectar, I bestow upon those with good fortune, desiring the supreme. Therefore, the lords of the protectors, 39-30-2a the yogis who have received empowerment in the mandala and abide steadfastly in the common and individual vows, especially those with firm devotion for the sake of the two kinds of accomplishments, should diligently practice this method. The order is as follows: arranging the substances, generating the deity, offering and blessing. The four common tormas (藏文:གཏོར་མ,梵文:Bali,汉语字面意思:food offering) are the preliminary. Offering tormas (藏文:གཏོར་མ,梵文:Bali,汉语字面意思:food offering) for each activity. Praising, following, reciting. Feast offering, completion, confession, fierce urging. The nine kinds of giving are the main practice. Offering praise, confessing faults, stabilizing the presence. Inviting to descend, dedicating and wishing, auspicious words are the conclusion. Thus, first of the four preliminaries, first is arranging the implements: in a charnel ground or a practice room, a dwelling place that is complete with characteristics and pleasing to the mind, hanging banners, colorful arrows, victory banners, flags, tiger and leopard skins, armor and weapons, garlands, etc., in the center of the terrifying adornments, install the body representation of the great oath-bound ones, paintings or reliefs, etc. In front of them, on a three-tiered platform, spread real or painted wealth-attracting objects. First, in excellent vessels such as skull cups, place ten portions of the torma (藏文:གཏོར་མ,梵文:Bali,汉语字面意思:food offering) for the deities suppressing the upper realms and the torma (藏文:གཏོར་མ,梵文:Bali,汉语字面意思:food offering) for the Dharma protector Lhamo (藏文:ལྕམ་དྲལ,汉语字面意思:sisters), surrounded by excellent foods, drinks, licking, chewing, tasting of the nine kinds of supreme foods, as well as jewels, grains, medicines, etc. Erect a tent of various colored silks. 39-30-2b --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adornments are arranged in a neat and orderly fashion. Secondly, the offering tormas and the tormas for the common and specific treasure protectors and local deities are arranged in order. To the right, in a skull cup, is placed the essence of medicine, soaked in intoxicating fine wine and nectar pills. To the left is placed rakta, the essence of blood, mixed with camphor and other substances. Thirdly, starting from the right side of the visualized deity, two waters and the five sensual objects are arranged. Starting from the left side, blood for argham, water for washing the feet, flowers for the five senses, incense for dispelling evil spirits and large offerings, butter lamps made of grain oil and melted fat, perfume made of nectar and bile, food made of meat, blood, and bones, and red and black tormas are arranged. In between these, tormas for the final offering are placed. Furthermore, external, internal, and secret offering substances, as well as conducive substances, fulfilling substances, welcoming substances, and so on, which are excellent and beautifully arranged, are prepared. Various musical instruments such as vajra bells, hand drums, and so on, as well as yak-tail fans, inner offerings, tsok substances, and all the implements of samaya, are assembled according to the practice of the lineage. Secondly, the yoga of self-generation: the yoga of any deity, such as the Eight Herukas and Vajrakilaya, can be performed according to their respective texts. If one wishes to practice it briefly, one should first cultivate refuge, bodhicitta, and the four immeasurables. Then, recite: 'Oṃ svabhāva śuddhaḥ sarva dharmāḥ svabhāva śuddho 'haṃ.' All phenomena of samsara and nirvana are purified into the great vajra protection wheel of clear light. In the center of this, from 'paṃ' (藏文,梵文天城体:प,梵文罗马拟音:paṃ,汉语字面意思:lotus) arises a lotus, and from 'raṃ' (藏文,梵文天城体:र,梵文罗马拟音:raṃ,汉语字面意思:sun) arises a sun mandala. Above the sun mandala, from 'hūṃ' (藏文,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Hūṃ) arises a vajra marked with 'hūṃ' (藏文,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Hūṃ), blazing with the light of the five wisdoms. From this, I become the Bhagavan Mahottara Heruka, with a body of dark blue-black color, with three faces of blue, white, and red, and six arms. The three right hands hold a nine-pronged, five-pronged, and three-pronged vajra, and the three left hands hold skull cups filled with blood. He embraces the consort, the blue Dhyingphyukma, who holds a khatvanga and a skull cup. He stands with four legs, the left legs extended, upon a seat of proud men and women, adorned with charnel ground ornaments, and possessing the nine moods of dance. He is completely pure as the nature of all the Tathagatas. He has a pure body and resides in the midst of a kalpa fire blazing fiercely. At his crown is a white 'oṃ' (藏文,梵文天城体:ओं,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:Oṃ), at his throat is a red 'āḥ' (藏文,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:Āḥ), and at his heart is a blue 'hūṃ' (藏文,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Hūṃ). From the 'hūṃ' (藏文,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Hūṃ) radiates light, and from its natural abode, the wisdom wheel, which is like the visualized deity, is invited with the assembly of inconceivable beings, with 'vajra samājaḥ'. It is offered with argham and so on, and is merged into oneness with 'jaḥ hūṃ baṃ hoḥ' (藏文,梵文天城体:,梵文罗马拟音:jaḥ hūṃ baṃ hoḥ,汉语字面意思:Jaḥ Hūṃ Baṃ Hoḥ). Again, visualize at one's own heart --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
