This profound oral instruction secret practice has three key points: history and instructions. Regarding the history: At Vajrasana (Bodh Gaya) in India, the Mahāpaṇḍitas (great scholars) who abide by the meaning of Vajra Essence, having abandoned the thorns in their hearts, relying on and abiding in virtuous conduct and meditation, Garab Dorje (Prahevajra), the emanation of Vajrasattva (Vajra Heart), said: 'Panditas, listen! For us, the most needed meaning of the unsurpassed secret mantra, the immaculate Holy Dharma, the teachings of the three pitakas (sutras, vinaya, and shastras), the self-arisen tantras that descended upon the palace of King Ja, now in the land of Oḍḍiyāna (Udyana), relying on the great ocean, in the place of the Nagas called Dhānakosa Island, at the feet of the ninth Thor-tshugs (Thor-tshugs) of the King of Oḍḍiyāna, so it is necessary to take their meaning.' The Panditas conferred and agreed, and then sent the accomplished monk Sukhadeva and Vajrahāsa, etc., with much gold to invite them. They offered the gold to the king, prostrated nine times, and reported: 'For the benefit of beings, please transmit the immaculate Holy Dharma spoken of in the preliminary practices, and the holy bodies of the king and ministers, for the purpose of maturing immeasurable beings.' The king granted permission and transmitted the seven sections of the Shri Heruka tantra, and opened the texts. Guru Garab Dorje prayed to Shri Vajrasattva, understood the individual meanings, and compiled the methods of practice of the three pitakas. In particular, the essence of the heart is that there is no need for laborious practice, acceptance, or rejection, but relying on one's own body and mind, the Dharma of attaining Buddhahood in one lifetime.
