If a lama with these qualities gives empowerment, Both are liberated. One should abandon what is contrary to this. Second, the student should have faith and respect, Great diligence and service, Aversion to samsara, Determination to renounce and diligence in practice, Seeing the lama as a Buddha, Showing great pure vision and devotion. One should not be contrary to this. The time is late summer and early autumn, And early spring and early winter are best. These three times are inseparable, Diligence without distraction is the best time. The place is where the eastern radiance shines, The sun rises early and the western rays gather, Free from enemies and thieves, A solitary place where the Buddhas have trod, Most precious when it agrees with the mind.
