Great Treasure of the Gurus TD298: The Quintessence of the Guru Sadhana Abridged Guru Sadhana: Liturgy Quintessence of the Guru Sadhana SHASAGAHATHA Homage to all the Sugatas and Victorious Ones! Since I will explain the means of the guru sadhana That is the complete convergence of all of them, May those with karma now present and those who will come later Experience it! SAMAYA It has three parts: preliminary, main practice, and concluding rites. The preliminary has seven aspects: With a firm intention to renounce samsara, Arrange the mandala in a solitary place. Display supports for body, speech, and mind, offerings, and tormas. First, purifying the continuum has three aspects: Visualize the field of merit in the sky before you. First, taking refuge: NAMO! Guru, Sugata, the embodiment of all, The essence of the Three Jewels, Myself and all sentient beings of the six realms, Until enlightenment, take refuge. Generating bodhichitta: Generating the mind of enlightenment for the sake of all beings, Having accomplished the guru, the Buddha, To whomever, By whatever means, They are tamed, I vow to liberate beings through enlightened activity. Third, the seven-branch practice: HUM! Gurus, yidams, and dakinis descend, Sit upon seats of sun, moon, and lotus. I respectfully prostrate with body, speech, and mind, I offer outer, inner, and secret offerings. I confess and purify broken vows, negativities, and obscurations, I rejoice in the accomplishment of secret mantras, I request the turning of the wheel of secret mantra dharma that ripens and liberates, I pray that you remain spontaneously accomplished. I dedicate the essence for the sake of sentient beings, May I realize the meaning of the true vajra! Second, the basis of all paths: Meditating on the four immeasurables: May all sentient beings have happiness! May they be free from all suffering! May they never be separated from happiness, And may all dharmas Remain in equanimity! Third, dispelling obstacles and hindrances: HUM! In the mandala of the deity of self-awareness, The maras and hindrances of dualistic delusion, Enjoy the torma of self-arising desirable qualities, And dissolve into the expanse of nondual freedom from extremes. HUM HUM HUM UTSATAYA PHAT! Fourth, meditating on the protective circle: HUM! Immutable vajra body, speech, and mind, Primordially complete with the power of primordial wisdom, The environment and inhabitants, palace, deities, and mantras, A vajra tent, a blazing mass of fire. HUM VAJRA RAKSHA RAKSHA BHRAUM! Fifth, opening the door of symbolic gestures and Confessing and meditating on the commitment: Primordially, samsara and nirvana are pure from the beginning, Seeing everything as a great mandala, I prostrate.
