Great Treasure TD197, From the Five Classes of Secret Instructions on the Guru's Heart Practice, Yangnying Düpa, the Elucidation of the Meditative Stages of Tummo Instruction: The Union of Sun and Moon, Great Bliss, and Dharmakaya Pointing Instructions. Rad Ling Heart Practice. Tummo Instruction. Emaho! Emaho! An emanation born from a stainless lotus, Guru Vajradhara, the embodiment of all victors, And the two dakinis who hold the secret treasury, Langdro Lotsawa, who controls the power of aspiration, Ratna Lingpa, the master of the profound treasure, Tsewang Drakpa, the supreme son of his heart, Yidam, great empowerers, principal and retinue, father and mother, Glorious Protector Maning, Ekajati, Dorje Lekpa and retinue, all those who abide by the command, I pray with one-pointed devotion to the Three Roots, Grant the permission of the command and bestow your blessings! Here, from the five classes of secret instructions on the Guru's Heart Practice, Yangnying Düpa, I will explain the profound instruction on Tummo, the liberation of the subtle energies. First, a teacher with experience should mature a student with faith, diligence, and wisdom by fully bestowing the four empowerments of Yangnying Düpa, including the supreme secret empowerment. Then, with both common and uncommon preliminaries, one should definitely mature the mindstream according to the stages of practice. The practice of the three kayas should be done for three years for the best, eighteen months for the intermediate, or at least three months each, reciting the vajra as instructed and combining the vase breath with the energies. Only then can a qualified yogi practice the profound path of subtle energies. In a secluded and conducive place, abandon the concerns of this life and worldly affairs, and pray single-mindedly to the Three Roots: guru, yidam, and dakini. Place death under your breast and practice this single-mindedly. First, there are three parts to the Tummo instruction: preliminary, main practice, and subsequent stages. The first is to meditate on the emptiness of the body: one's own body is like a hollow bamboo, empty from the crown of the head to the tips of the toes. The color is white with a reddish tinge, clear and empty like clarified butter. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meditate on yourself as being of the nature of light. Practice this single-pointedly for seven or three weeks. Then, visualize yourself as the body of Vajrayogini (Dorje Naljorma), the size of an arrow-shot, as before, empty and clear from the crown of the head to the fingertips. Adorned with a crown of five dry skulls and six bone ornaments. On the crown of the head, a sow's face turned upwards. Hair reddish-yellow, half tied up and half loose. The right leg bent, the left leg extended, standing on a lotus, sun, and corpse cushion. The right hand holding a curved knife marked with a vajra (Dorje), brandishing it in the sky, and the left hand holding a skull cup filled with blood at the heart. At the elbow, a khatvanga marked with a vajra, symbolizing the father-tantra Great Lord (Vangchen), placed on the left side. Visualize yourself as being in the midst of a fire of five wisdoms. Second, meditate on the emptiness of the channels. Visualize in the center of the body a central channel (Uma), as thick as an arrow shaft, with the upper end connected to the crown of the head and the lower end connected to the secret place. When expelling impure air, first observe the entry and exit of the breath, making it even. Then inhale, without holding it for too long, exhale from the nostrils, visualizing that all the pores of the body expel bluish-black impure air, including channel-air obstacles, afflictions, and karmic obscurations. Repeat three times. Then, sixteen finger-widths in front of the nostrils, visualize the earth-air as yellow, four finger-widths wide, the water-air as blue, four finger-widths wide, the fire-air as red, four finger-widths wide, and the wind-air as green, four finger-widths wide, and then exhale. Hold the breath slightly after exhaling (note: beginners should not hold the breath for too long). Blend the various colored airs with emptiness. Then slowly inhale, pressing down below the navel. When exhaling again, simultaneously rotate the waist, shake the body, and exhale, maintaining the posture, visualizing as before. The second method: First practice effortlessly. First perform vase breathing (Bhumpachen), inhale and press down below the navel. Visualize the central channel as thick as a medium arrow shaft, with the upper end connected from the crown of the head and the lower end connected to the secret place, with a gap in between. Cross the hands, hold the vajra fists (Dorje Khutshur) and press them on the chest, holding the breath for about thirty breaths. The third method: Place the hands in vajra fists on the thighs, and visualize a dark blue Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ,hūṃ,hūṃ,seed syllable of compassion) the size of an inch within the secret place at the lower end of the central channel. Inhale and press down below the navel, and at the same time draw the air upwards, pulling the Hūṃ upwards along with abdominal contraction. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
