Great Treasure TD22 A Dream Instruction Manual for the Practice of Vajrasattva's Heart Essence, entitled 'Self-Liberation of Innate Confusion'. Mindrolling Vajrasattva. Dream Instructions. A Dream Instruction Manual for the Practice of Vajrasattva's Heart Essence, entitled 'Self-Liberation of Innate Confusion'. OM SWASTI! In the expanse of self-awareness, grasping and fixation are completely liberated, the immutable wind-mind transforms into the luminous illusory deity. I bow to the master Vajrasattva, who reveals the means to tame dreams. Here, from the minor instructions on the limbs of the practice of Vajrasattva's Heart Essence, is how to practice the dream instructions, which has two parts: preparation and main practice. First, the preparation: 'First, tame the mind with the preliminary practices.' Initially, contemplate the difficulty of obtaining this leisure and fortune again and again. Even having obtained it this time, contemplate that you will certainly die, and there is no certainty when you will die, with the mindfulness of impermanence. Know that wherever you are born in samsara, high or low, all are waves of suffering, so strongly contemplate the need to be free from it, stirring the mind with renunciation. Imagine the dwelling place as a pure land. In the sky in front, on a high and wide throne, imagine the form of the master Vajrasattva, as the essence of the gathering of all refuges. All sentient beings, frightened by the suffering of samsara, take refuge, thinking, 'Whatever you do, kind master, know me!' and go for refuge. Knowing all sentient beings pervading the sky as kind mothers, drawn by unbearable compassion, vow: 'I will liberate all sentient beings from suffering and place them in the state of perfect Buddhahood. For that purpose, I will meditate on the profound path.' Generate the mind of enlightenment. On the crown of your head, imagine the master as the essence of the gathering of all refuges. With devotion that makes your hair stand on end and tears flow, pray intensely, transforming the dream into something you can grasp or master as the opportunity arises. Finally, imagine the master dissolving into light and dissolving from the crown of your head, your own body remaining as the clear and empty form of Vajrasattva. In the nature of rootless awareness, in a state of non-distraction, in the self-nature of appearances that cease to arise, like an illusion, rest nakedly and openly. Second, the main part, which includes: catching the dream, taming the dream, and uniting the dream. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Third, meditation and so on. First, regarding controlling dreams: during the day, control with unwavering mindfulness, and at night, rely on the forceful instructions of the oral teachings. The first method is: 'Although habits are involuntary, for the external appearances that arise, all thoughts of attachment, rejection, affirmation, and negation, like a dream, without any distraction, constantly control with strong intention.' In this way, in a solitary place, generate strong renunciation towards the suffering of death, impermanence, and samsara. Towards all sentient beings who wander in samsara because they do not understand that all phenomena are unreal and like illusions, generate unbearable and intense compassion, thinking, 'Alas!' As before, pray to the lama with intense devotion, requesting blessings to master dreams and accomplish the illusory body and dreams. Through this prayer, from the intense feeling of devotion, regard the current appearance, which seems real, as unreal, dissolving like a bubble, and establish your footing on the ability of uninterrupted thought arising. Like this, for the good and bad realms that appear, and the thoughts of affirming and negating them, all these thoughts arise and are experienced due to the power of delusional appearances that have left habits in the mind, but there is not even a particle of truth in them. These appearances are just appearances, not real.' In general, recognize that everything is unreal, and especially treat it like a dream, thinking, 'I am asleep, this appearance is a dream, an illusion, I must be sleeping,' and focus your attention entirely on this thought. In all activities such as walking, standing, sitting, lying down, eating, and speaking, think, 'I am dying, nothing is necessary,' and without separating from the appearance of the lama, maintain intense devotion. Especially, strongly think, 'I am asleep, these walking, standing, sitting, and lying down are also in a dream.' Like this, in both meditation and post-meditation, continuously maintain this intention, making the appearance unreal and dim, then relax and rest in a non-conceptual state. Afterwards, focus your attention on all appearances of yourself and others, thinking, 'All of this is just appearance, not real,' and especially think, 'I am asleep, all these appearances are just dreams,' and maintain this state with strong intention and without distraction. The second method is: 'When sleeping, use the mind that controls dreams, slowly rely on actions, grasp the key point of the mind. Visualize a pure white 'A' (藏文ཨ,梵文 देवनागरी:अ,梵文IAST:A,字面意思:无) in the heart, radiating various lights, dissolving the lights of samsara and nirvana into it, then dissolve it into the immaculate space, like the moon rising in the immaculate sky, fall asleep in a state of undiminished clarity. In this way, you will have many clear dreams.' Therefore, when going to bed in the evening, visualize the lama with intense devotion. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
