The Root Tantra from the Secret Oral Instruction Tantra of the Ambrosia Heart Essence Eight Branches 25-5 ༄༅། །The Root Tantra from the Secret Oral Instruction Tantra of the Ambrosia Heart Essence Eight Branches. ༄། །First, the Introductory Chapter. ༄༅། །The Root Tantra from the Secret Oral Instruction Tantra of the Ambrosia Heart Essence Eight Branches. ༄༅། །In Indian language: Amrita Hridaya Anga Ashta Guhya Upadesha Tantra Nama. In Tibetan: Called the Secret Oral Instruction Tantra of the Ambrosia Heart Essence Eight Branches. I prostrate to the Bhagavan, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Complete Buddha, the Medicine Master, the King of Lapis Lazuli Light. Bhagavan, with compassion you work for the benefit of beings, Just hearing your name protects from the suffering of the lower realms, Medicine Buddha, you heal the diseases of the three poisons, I prostrate to the light of Lapis Lazuli. Thus I have heard: At one time, in the dwelling of the sage, in the city of medicine called Delightful, there was a palace made of five kinds of precious jewels. The adornment of that palace was decorated with various kinds of medicinal jewels. Those jewels would eliminate the four hundred and four diseases arising from wind diseases, bile diseases, phlegm diseases, coemergent diseases, and combined diseases. They would transform hot diseases into coolness, and cold diseases into warmth. They would pacify eighty thousand kinds of obstructing spirits, and fulfill all needs and desires as wished. To the south of that city was a mountain called Piercing Mountain, a mountain endowed with the power of the sun, where there were forests of medicines that alleviate cold, such as se 'bru, na le sham, pi pi ling, and tsi tra ka, with hot, sour, salty tastes, and hot and sharp potencies. Wherever there were medicines with roots, stems, branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits, with fragrant medicinal scents, delightful and pleasing, pervaded by medicinal scents, cold diseases would not arise. To the north of that city was a mountain called Snow Mountain, a mountain endowed with the power of the moon, where there were medicines that alleviate heat, such as sandalwood, camphor, agarwood, and neem, with bitter and astringent tastes.

Forests of medicinal plants with astringent and bitter tastes, and cooling and dulling properties. Medicinal plants with roots, stems, branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits, with fragrant aromas, beautiful appearance, pleasing to the mind, and pervaded by medicinal scents, where feverish diseases do not occur. To the east of that city is a mountain called Fragrant Mountain, on which grows a forest of arura (Terminalia chebula). The roots cure bone diseases, the stems cure muscle diseases, the branches cure vascular diseases, the bark cures skin diseases, the leaves cure organ diseases, the flowers cure sensory diseases, and the fruits cure heart diseases. At the summit, five types of arura ripen, possessing six tastes, eight powers, three post-digestive effects, and perfecting seventeen qualities, eliminating all types of diseases. Fragrant aroma, beautiful appearance, pleasing to the mind, and pervaded by medicinal scents, where four hundred and four diseases do not occur.
