O faithful practitioner who is liberated! Here, there is no person (pudgala) existing, and the dharmas are also without inherent nature. The eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind, as well as earth, water, fire, and wind, are all nominally designated as "I". The eye is not a person, nor are the ear, nose, tongue, body, or mind. In earth, water, fire, and wind, there is also no person existing. It is merely a nominal designation upon the five aggregates, and foolish children grasp it as "I". They mistake what is without essence for having essence. Here, it is said that a forest is delightful, but it is a multitude gathered together and mistaken for a single entity. When looking at each individual part such as petals, one does not see another tree, nor can one find the appearance of a forest separate from the individual trees. Similarly, for directions and times, if analyzed, there is no inherent nature. Thus, since the aggregates are not found, the person within them is also not found. If a barren woman has no son, how can one judge beauty or ugliness? Even if one cannot find a forest after analysis, when engaging in activities such as with trees, it does not prevent calling it a forest. That all causes and effects arise from dharmas without inherent nature is what Gautama (Shakyamuni Buddha) taught. What could be more excellent than this? This is the first story about the meaning of essence. O auspicious one! This is the second story about various meanings. Those who are intoxicated by the pride of youth, and the arrogance of beautiful form, as well as the conceit of being without illness, after a few days, suddenly feel fear, dread, and regret, and their minds are tormented by remembering the past, and they are burned by the fires of hell. Here, the pleasures of youth also decline, and the mind is burned by desire, and when the ability to enjoy is lost, the objects of desire also bring suffering. Even a universal monarch who possesses the wealth of the seven precious things, and travels in the sky with armies, and upholds the law with the ten virtues, is the power and glory of virtuous deeds. That the body is without diseases, and becomes pleasing to all, the Buddha said, believe in the fruit of cultivating patience in this way. Like pure gold, beautiful in color, and feeling pleasure when touching the limbs, possessing the signs of a great being with a beautiful form, the Buddha said, believe in the fruit of depicting these bodily forms in paintings. Enjoyments that do not diminish, and do not need to be accomplished through difficult

Tsal la. Fame and renown will surely be obtained, unmixed with sinful deeds. The result of giving generously is like the moon's light, extremely bright. A whisk with a jewel handle, swaying and moving in the sky, is the result of offering a whisk. Even the sunlight is subdued by its radiance, adorned with precious ornaments. In an immeasurable and pleasing palace, spending days and nights in joy is the power of building a temple. The appearance of pure white swaying is like the clear water flowing in autumn, becoming an adornment of the path of the gods. An extremely beautiful golden handle and a jewel top adorn it. Holding an umbrella with a thousand spokes, becoming the lord of gods and humans, this is the result of offering the supreme umbrella. A beautiful and virtuous form, comfortable to the touch, brings joy to the sight, extremely well-protected and, like a celestial maiden in a joyful garden, obtaining precious consorts is the result of abandoning adultery. Abstaining from killing leads to longevity. Short life and many illnesses are the great cause of hell. Other causes include untimely death, plagues, madness, mental confusion, and various unbearable sufferings. Wars, birds, and wild animal snares, nets for catching fish, these three are said to be powerful actions. Certainly releasing the beings that are to be killed, giving food to the poor, reducing taxes, abstaining from harming fish and wild animals, these four immediately avert the lord of death. Engaging in much killing and delighting in adultery, destroying Buddha images and scriptures, robbing the resources of the Sangha, these four immediately cause a short life. Establishing monasteries for preaching the Dharma, writing scriptures of the Victorious One's teachings, building unprecedented temples, these three are extremely meritorious. Taking vows of fasting every month, abstaining from all sexual activity at the right time, revering the Three Jewels with faith, constantly relying on good intentions, being grateful for kindness, are the five virtuous conducts of householders. Whoever practices these themselves and encourages others to do so, that person will go to the heavens, and in this world, they will have long life and happiness, and even at the time of death, they will have little sorrow. Faith and knowing shame, turning away from evil
