The essence condensed: First, gather each separately. As a practice of yoga: In terms of physical posture, adopt either of the two gazing methods mentioned earlier from the seven-point posture. In practice, prioritize the former. Moreover, the gazing method should not be too profound. In terms of speech, first eliminate twelve times the impure air. Then, leave it naturally. In terms of mind, there are three ways to settle: praising outwardly, praising inwardly, and non-effort. The first is to look at the sky without thinking of anything. The second is to focus on mere awareness, which is coarser, thus making it easier to find a starting point for meditation than the first. The third is to slightly relax effort and settle naturally. By settling in this way, various uncertain signs of the path, such as smoke, will appear, or distinctions between special and ordinary will arise. Smoke and so on are called the five coarse signs. Just as it is said, water, fire, earth, and wind transform one after another. The moon, sun, lightning, the bindu of Rahu, dark blue, etc., are known as subtle signs. If the last sign appears stably, it is appropriate to move to the second limb—dhyana (meditation). To enhance these and all subsequent practices, it is necessary to pray to the guru with devotion, generate compassion for sentient beings, contemplate the benefits of the path, generate certainty in the reasons for emptiness, and so on. In particular, even if there is only a slight attachment to fame, wealth, etc., in this life, no matter how much effort is put into meditation, only temporary minor qualities will arise, or phenomena that appear to be qualities. Therefore, genuine meditation will not arise from this. So, it is very important to train in indifference towards the three—body, possessions, and feelings. Second is dhyana (meditation): The physical posture and prana practice are the same as before. In terms of mind, one should strive to focus the mind single-pointedly on that sign. First, mixing the mind and the sign into one, settling in mere self-awareness is vitarka (apprehension). Then, closely examining the sign that is inseparable from this is vicara (investigation). Knowing the mind and sign as one, joy arises in the mind, which is rapture. From this, the body and mind become extremely pliant, which is bliss. The senses and objects merge into one, which is one-pointedness. These
