Collected Teachings of Master Taranatha JT516 Commentary on the Difficult Points of the Heart Sutra of the Holy Mother Prajnaparamita, the Unrivaled King, in Verse 24-113 ༄༅། ། Commentary on the Difficult Points of the Heart Sutra of the Holy Mother Prajnaparamita, the Unrivaled King, in Verse ༄། ། Explanation of the Common Meaning. ༄༅། ། Of the Heart Sutra of the Holy Mother Prajnaparamita Commentary on the Difficult Points, the Unrivaled King In Verse Resides. ༄༅། ། Namo Buddhaya. (Tibetan: ན་མོ་བུདྡྷ་ཡ།, Devanagari: नमो बुद्धाय, Romanized Sanskrit: Namo Buddhāya, Literal meaning: Homage to the Buddha) Explanation of the Heart Sutra of the Holy Mother Prajnaparamita In Verse. I prostrate to all the Lamas, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas. To the supreme Lama who illuminates my mind, I pay homage with reverence. To the victorious Mipham Gonpo also, I prostrate again and again. (1) The manner of the Prajnaparamita, The non-dual wisdom itself. To that, in a non-dual way, I prostrate to all phenomena. (2) The mother who gives birth to all the victorious ones, Is the Prajnaparamita. Her essence, condensed, The twenty-five syllables, I will explain. (3) Most teachers (except for those from the Hundred Thousand to the Abridged), do not explain these sutras, etc., the eight topics. Therefore, it is not the main sutra of Prajna, It is a branch of the Prajna sutra. (4) Because it teaches the three doors of liberation, etc., The essence (of the Paramitas) is just condensed, they say. Regarding the manner of the Prajnaparamita, With the good fortune of faith and aspiration. (5) Meditating on the meaning of this in the mind, 24-114 From that, how difficult it is to find, Obtaining this path of the eight topics, Is the power of the victorious Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. (6) Regarding this (two general meanings, the meaning of the text. The first has two, common and uncommon. The first, common, has) the nature of Prajna, The key instructions for practicing meditation, And the order of the path to be traversed. The first is like the elephant of the cardinal direction. (7) Holding it as gathering the meaning of the Eight Thousand Verses. The Prajnaparamita is non-dual. That wisdom is the Tathagata. The object to be attained is the union of that meaning. (8) In the path of the scriptures, that is its sound. The second (the key instructions for meditation have four, view, meditation, conduct, result) the view is the two selflessnesses. Meditation is shamatha and vipashyana. Conduct is the six paramitas, etc. (9) Result

Son, three bodies, five wisdoms. Third (on the stages of the path to be traversed) Five paths and ten bhumis, and thirty-seven factors of enlightenment. These are extremely vast, (10) Look at them according to the treatises of Mipham Gonpo. The Explanation of Uncommon Meanings Now, I will explain the uncommon meanings. When was this sutra spoken? Where does the ultimate intention reside? (11) Who is the actual speaker? What are the four dharmas, such as the purpose of this? How did it flourish in the land of humans? These should be combined at the beginning of the explanation of the sutra. (12) The time is earlier than the extensive mother sutras. The intention is explained by the Victor himself in the Samdhinirmocana Sutra and others. (13) (Not only in the final turning of the wheel) but also in the sutras of the Prajnaparamita, the three characteristics are spoken of in the chapter of Maitreya's Questions. Therefore, the ultimate intention is none other than the Chittamatra Madhyamaka. (14) Temporarily, depending on the trainees, it is also acceptable to speak of no self-nature. Most of the words and meanings of this are easy for skilled speakers to understand. (15) Because all the learned scholars of India and Tibet have repeatedly explained it, if you know this hidden meaning and the order of manifestation, then the words and meanings should be explained in accordance with the previous commentaries. (16) The speaker has all three commands. The subject matter, the explicitly shown five paths, and the three characteristics are repeatedly shown. (17) The hidden meaning and the manifested realization are all explained in eight ways. The purpose and so on are the same as others. It appeared in the land of humans earlier than the extensive mother sutras. (18) In this direction, the immaculate spiritual friend translated, taught, and expanded it. The Condensed Meaning of the Explicitly Shown Words The condensed meaning of the explicitly shown words is: "Thus I have heard," etc. (19) The five perfections of the introduction are shown. At that time, the Bhagavan, etc., the beginning of the profound sutra, this profound Prajnaparamita, (20) all of holding, reciting, teaching, and meditating are shown to be only the power of the Victor. Shariputra, with the knowable, etc., for the practice of the Prajnaparamita, (21) asked questions and made connections. By saying that the five aggregates are empty, etc., emptiness is clearly shown. By saying that there is no impurity and no freedom from impurity, (22) it is for the sake of preventing the co-emergent dependent origination, the liberation without characteristics, and the words without decrease or increase.
