Doronatha Master's Teachings JT468 The Wonderful Guide to the Perfection of Wisdom 23-27 ༄༅། །The Wonderful Guide to the Perfection of Wisdom ༄། །First, rely on the virtuous spiritual friend, the root of the path. ༄༅། །The Wonderful Guide to the Perfection of Wisdom ༄༅། །Om Svasti. The method of contemplating the meaning of the Perfection of Wisdom is: First, relying on the virtuous spiritual friend, the root of the path, such as "not abandoning the mind," etc., to a teacher who possesses qualities, "superior to all Buddhas," etc., and the manner of relying, such as "relying on the Buddha and asking everything," etc., and resolving the need for Dharma. In front of the lama, offer a mandala, practice the seven-branch offering, and cultivate devotion by seeing the lama as inseparable from the actual Buddha. First meditation session. ༄། །Second, generate faith in the Dharma. Second, generating faith in the Dharma means that the qualities of all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Noble Ones are also present in the Perfection of Wisdom. They all attained it by practicing this, so generate faith in the Dharma. Second meditation session. ༄། །Third, focus on the words. "Relying on the Buddha and giving alms," etc., strive to create the cause for generating faith. "Severing the causes of the decline of the Dharma," etc., abandon obstacles. Third, focusing on the words means first performing the seven-branch offering and taking refuge and generating bodhicitta, then sitting in the seven-point posture of Vairochana, maintaining mindfulness. The scripture from which the Dharma I am to practice originates is the Perfection of Wisdom. Thinking in this way, abide in meditation. It is the meaning of "focusing the mind on the names of sutras, etc." At the end of the session, dedicate the root of virtue to enlightenment. The preliminary and subsequent actions should also be similar to the following. Third meditation session. 23-28 ༄། །Fourth, focus on the meaning. Fourth, focusing on the meaning means "within each, properly and truly, thoroughly examine its meaning." It means that the object of my hearing, thinking, and meditating—the Perfection of Wisdom—first has an introduction, then a brief explanation of the generation of bodhicitta, and up to the twenty-seven activities, it is the order of elaborating on the limbs.

Thus abiding, finally offer loving words. Always weeping, Dharma Supreme, and those who are entrusted, are all present. This chapter and this verse speak of these meanings, and so on. Also, repeatedly contemplate and meditate on them. The fourth session of meditation is thus, the four preliminaries are complete. ༄. The Fifth, the Actual Path. The fifth, the actual path, has two parts: first, the gateway to entering the path, and second, the stages of the path and its fruit. ༈ The Gateway to Entering the Path. In the first part, there are two: calm abiding and insight. The first is: With sorrowful remorse arising from disillusionment with this life and samsara, and with certainty of belief in the infallibility of cause and effect, and with loving-kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta towards sentient beings who have not realized emptiness, throughout the beginning, middle, and end of the session, in all places, exert effort and encourage diligence. By remembering the qualities of the Three Jewels, generate joy with the three types of faith. Rely on the nature of calm abiding, the nine methods of settling the mind, the five faults, and the eight antidotes, and so on. If one is skilled in pure calm abiding that has abandoned sinking and excitement, then it does not matter how the arrangement is done, whether extensively or concisely. Therefore, it is in accordance with the general method of meditating on calm abiding. One great object. Second, in insight, there are two paths: the path of inferential certainty and the path of non-conceptual direct perception. In the first, there are two methods: the method of meditating on the selflessness of persons and the method of meditating on the selflessness of phenomena. In the first, if one focuses on the object of the thought of "I," then the term "I" is not established, because the bodies are broken down into particles, and the mind is also broken down into moments. Neither the body nor the mind is the "I," and the collection of the two is also not established, because it has no inherent nature. It is also not separate from the two, because there is no separate entity. When one realizes the selflessness of persons, then one rests in that state. Two great objects. In between, if one knows the reasons for refuting the self of persons, then one should remember them, and thereby generate certainty and exert effort. Second, as before, break down the knowledges into moments, and break down the appearances of things into particles. Break down the moments and the particles as well, so that they become endless. Therefore, there is no characteristic of the nature of forms, sounds, etc., and no characteristic of the arrangement of pillars, vases, etc., and no characteristic of the knowledge of anger, faith, etc., and there is nothing.
