Collection of Teachings by Tāranātha, JT406: A Practice for Bestowing the Great Empowerment of the Illusory Body 20-300 ༄༅། །A Practice for Bestowing the Great Empowerment of the Illusory Body. ༄། །The Ten Preliminaries. A Practice for Bestowing the Great Empowerment of the Illusory Body. To bestow the great empowerment of the illusory body, in order to provide a vast opportunity, on the seat, draw a mandala of dust colors, in elaborate, medium, or concise form. Of these, the elaborate form is: from the outside, a great circular area surrounded by white, red, and blue borders in succession. This represents the outer glorious rice heap stupa, inside of which is Mount Meru, and inside of that is the vajra fence. It also represents the three: body, speech, and mind. Inside that is a square palace that is the same as usual. Inside the walls, the center is the space of mind, and the two outer corridors are white in the east, yellow in the south, red in the west, and green in the north, which are the directional colors. Inside the palace, in the four squares divided by the diameter, draw a circle each. That is, in the southeast circle, draw a two-layered white dharma source, separated by dark blue-black, ribs red, in the center a five-tiered sun cushion, with dark blue small heaps arranged between each heap. In the southwest square, draw a four-petaled lotus, the directional colors. In the center of the sun cushion, place a blue small heap. In the northeast square, draw a red dharma source, separated by green, a white triangle. In the northwest square, draw a black dharma source, a red fire mountain, a green triangle. The four circles, the dividing border is black. In the center of the red dharma source, place a five-tiered sun cushion, the center white, the east black, the south yellow, the west red, and the north green small heaps. In the center of the black dharma source, on the sun cushion, place a black small heap. In the very center of the palace, on the sun cushion, draw a blue five-pronged vajra. Although not found in the explanations, the practice of the lama is like this. The medium form is: abandon the desire realm, father tantra, net half, Sharbu, arrow shaft, etc., the walls are green, the door ring, threshold, door frame, the beam above the door, etc., are all like that. The rest is the same as before. The concise form is: without drawing the walls, etc., on a square mandala plate, draw the directional colors, the four circles as before. The outer border.

Draw a square with a white line. In front of that platform, place two round tormas decorated with meat. As conveniently as possible, 20-301 place the two preliminary water offerings, and below, the necessary empowerment items and tsok implements, etc. The vase is placed in the mandala of the four-petaled lotus in the southwest corner, as stated in the empowerment ritual. If the mandala is very large, it can be placed on top of the manza there. However, in practice, if the mandala is large, it is usually placed on the manza in the center of the four circular mandalas. If the mandala is small, it is best to arrange the vase separately. The arrangement of the vase is the same as the general arrangement, including the neckband and decorations, etc. There is no need for conch shells, scriptures, or tethers. In this empowerment ritual, it is said that five heaps are arranged on the four-petaled lotus mandala. Although no deities are generated there, since it is the base of the vase, it seems to represent the deities inside the vase. Just as the five deities of Chakrasamvara are generated on the red Dharma origin, nowadays most people just follow the text literally. Even in some supplementary ritual texts, they only discuss whether it is the same or not. However, the lama said that these are hidden instructions. Especially in the supplementary ritual text, it says that in the center of the four-petaled lotus is the root guru, in front is the yidam, and on the right is the deceased guru, etc., which is very incorrect. Therefore, one's own tradition's commitment and practice is: a double-layered Dharma origin, and inside the vase is the collection of the main deities of the five tantra classes. On the four-petaled lotus, there is either Vajradhara Guru surrounded by the five classes of dakinis, or the essence of the guru, the five deities of Chakrasamvara. In the red Dharma origin, visualize the five deities of Vajravarahi. In this way, the preliminary torma is given like the general torma offering to the dakinis. The blessing of the place and offerings is also the same as the five deities of Chakrasamvara. Starting from the common refuge, until once again, one is the pride of Heruka and his consort, between the blessing of the three places, as explained in the condensed practice of the five tantra classes. Perform self-generation and recitation, etc. Then perform the front generation. Purify with Amrita (Tibetan: ཨ་མྲྀ་ཏ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: अमृत, Sanskrit Romanization: amṛta, Chinese literal meaning: immortality). Purify with Svabhava (Tibetan: སྭཱ་བྷ་ཝ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: स्वभाव, Sanskrit Romanization: svabhāva, Chinese literal meaning: self-nature). From emptiness, in the center of the great charnel ground, is the outer glorious Dhanyakataka Stupa.
