The Great Madhyamaka Decisive Elucidation of the Supremely Extensive Vehicle 18-18 ༄༅། །The Great Madhyamaka Decisive Elucidation of the Supremely Extensive Vehicle ༄། །First Chapter: Ascertaining the Nature of Madhyamaka. ༄༅། །The Great Madhyamaka Decisive Elucidation of the Supremely Extensive Vehicle. ༄༅། །Oṃ Svasti. The Great Madhyamaka Decisive Elucidation of the Supremely Extensive Vehicle. I prostrate to the gurus, buddhas, and all bodhisattvas. Gathering all victors, in the manner of the victors' sons; holding the victors' dharma, equal to the victors' deeds; the supreme, incomparable victor, prophesied by the victors; that victor is the supreme guide, abandoning doubt in the victors. Whoever's discipline is exceedingly pure, whoever is skilled in all aspects of knowable things, whoever possesses the state of bodhicitta, whoever possesses these three, is the object of veneration. Whoever is without arrogance, jealousy, or harshness, whoever does not abandon the Dharma and the holy ones, whoever does not boast of their own qualities, whoever therefore also admires the holy ones. Whoever definitively explains the profound meaning, whoever is adorned with unprecedented, correct views, whoever is single-mindedly diligent in practice, whoever is a source of wonder, amazement, and reverence. The omniscient Jonangpa, possessing the four reliances, is a great bodhisattva in the definitive sense, and in appearance, possesses all the qualities mentioned above, having the activity of connecting beings with the supreme meaning. How wonderful is the tenet of this one! This is the definitive secret of all the victors. In order to revive what has been hidden for a long time, therefore, I shall explain his teachings in detail. Here, it is free from confusion about reality, the tenets of the ground, path, and result are without error, it is the supreme Madhyamaka Dharma that is liberated from all faults, one must ascertain the place to enter. It is the uncommon cause for accomplishing unsurpassed enlightenment, it is the cause for going to liberation and supreme bliss, from this arise faith, compassion, and incomparable wisdom, this is the reason for entering. And the definitive sutras and the Lord of the Ten Bhumis, and the prophesied supreme being who distinguishes between provisional and definitive meanings, and the feet of Asanga, the crest jewel of scholars, and Nagarjuna, etc., who prophesied non-conceptual wisdom, in the words of the holy ones.

Relying on the excellent, boasting and renowned as a great chariot. For those who are foolish or engage in deceitful conduct, their words are rejected because they are not credible. Being skilled in understanding all the meanings of the scriptures, transcending the path of demons, the obscurations of karma will be exhausted, and immeasurable and excellent merit will be obtained. Even Buddhahood itself will be obtained. This is the benefit of entering this path. Even practicing other dharmas for eons is not as excellent as practicing this for a moment. How to enter? It is to follow the words of the valid authority, entering with all aspects of reason complete, and preventing unacceptable deceit. What to enter, why to enter, relying on what to enter, and the benefits of entering, how to enter, these are initially the five wonders of virtue. The ultimate truth, suchness, is the self of the holy ones; the ultimate truth, indivisible, all-pervading; selflessness, the Tathagatagarbha, the supreme of my self; the reality, the great Madhyamaka, unchanging. Not understanding this meaning, from delusion and confusion, the phenomena of the ground, temporary, and samsara arise. The way to realize such is called the path. When each is purified from its own defilements, it is designated as the result. This is a brief instruction on the meaning of Madhyamaka: what is to be realized is the Madhyamaka of the meaning of reality, and what enables realization is the Madhyamaka of the path of experience. Both the ground and the result are included in the initial category. Among them, for the time being, all phenomena of existence, appearances and sounds are conventional, objects that can be recognized by the consciousness. The realm of ultimate truth is devoid of the elaboration of wisdom, and primordial peace is the nature of Nirvana. The respective realms of consciousness and wisdom, the respective truths of conventional and ultimate, although the nature is one, it is liberated from one, and although the characteristics are contradictory, it is liberated from otherness. Although wisdom exists with an unchanging nature, the other can never be established, therefore, in non-existence, neither one nor other exists, there is no birth and death, permanence and annihilation, coming and going, existence and non-existence. If this principle is realized, then all Mahayana is realized. If this principle is not realized, one will fall into the abyss of permanence and annihilation. The meaning of this great merit will be understood, and the supreme intelligent ones will gain certainty about this. Abandoning the two extremes of existence is the Middle Way, and practicing without mistaken acceptance and rejection is also the Middle Way, the union of Shamatha and Vipassana in meditation is the Middle Way, and the Middle Way should be practiced in all stages of view.
