Commentary on Confession of Downfalls A brief explanation of the meaning of the continuous confession of the Three Aggregates. Commentary on Confession of Downfalls A brief explanation of the meaning of the continuous confession of the Three Aggregates. How this continuous confession arises and the way the sutra is arranged. Commentary on Confession of Downfalls ༄༅། །Oṃ Svasti Siddhiṃ Prajābhyaḥ (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思) I prostrate to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Here, I will briefly explain the meaning of the continuous confession of the Three Aggregates. This comes from the Ārya Ratnakūṭa Sūtra, the hundred thousand categories of Dharma, Specifically, the twenty-fourth chapter, which is also called 'The Chapter on the Thorough Determination of Discipline,' and also called 'The Sutra Questioned by Near Attendant'. That is, the Blessed One was dwelling in Jeta's Grove in Śrāvastī, together with five hundred monks and one thousand Bodhisattvas. At that time, the Blessed One, for the sake of fully grasping the sacred Dharma in later times, and for the sake of fully maturing sentient beings, asked the assembly about the joy of protecting the Dharma with various methods. Then, about thirty-eight Bodhisattvas, such as Maitreya, directly and willingly accepted the joy according to their respective abilities. Then, when Śāriputra was amazed at the way the great armor of those Bodhisattvas was, the Blessed One said that the samādhi, skillful means, Wisdom, and the realm of wisdom of the Bodhisattvas are not the objects of practice for the Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Even though they show various manifestations, they do not move from the nature of reality, and they show various forms of bodies that subdue whatever needs to be subdued, and so on, and said much. Householder Bodhisattvas should train in the two kinds of giving: Dharma and material things. Those who have gone forth should train in giving pens, ink, books, and Dharma. Having obtained tolerance for the unborn Dharma, it is said that one should train in giving, great giving, and extreme giving. Among them, giving refers to royal power and so on, great giving refers to children and wives and so on, and extreme giving refers to heads, limbs, and so on.
