Dorje Drolo Teachings JT180 Commentary on the Seventh Suchness: A Jewel Ear of Grain 10-320 ༄༅། །Commentary on the Seventh Suchness: A Jewel Ear of Grain ༄། །General Meaning ༄༅། །Commentary on the Seventh Suchness: A Jewel Ear of Grain ༄༅། །Oṃ Svasti Praja Bhyaḥ, Bestower of the Supreme Fruit of Wisdom, the Knowledge of Suchness, Possessor of the Asceticism of Knowledge, Illuminating All with the Supreme Light of Inner Light, I bow to the Glorious Lama, Protector of the Lineage. His immaculate speech, the Vajradhara's, the Tantras that illuminate all, profound and vast, the one eye of seeing all profound meanings, bestowing upon beings, may the fortunate ones attain it today. Those who are greatly arrogant, content with mere power, embellishing themselves on the path of the eight worldly concerns, high and low, without studying, not knowing the oral instructions, not meditating, the conceptualizations of the power of speech, falling into the abyss. In the mind-ocean filled with jealousy and attachment, the great ship of good speech is difficult to enter, but like the friend of the lotus in the lotus sea, it is the one who causes the lotus garden of fortunate wisdom to flourish. Holding the body of a mountain of meaningless texts, seeing it reminds one of the ancient giant wooden carts. Thus, this, which has not been before, is spoken in simple and easy-to-understand words. Therefore, the entrance for those who desire liberation is only the teachings of the Victorious One, and this also transforms into many vehicles according to the order of the capacities of the beings to be tamed. As it is said in the Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra: The vehicle of the gods and the vehicle of Brahmā, the vehicle of the Śrāvakas is also the same. The vehicle of the Tathāgatas and the Pratyekabuddhas, I have spoken of those vehicles. I have spoken of the many kinds of vehicles, for the sake of taming sentient beings. I have spoken of the differences of the vehicles, I have declared the one vehicle. As long as the mind has not entered, the vehicles are endless. When the mind is completely transformed, there is no vehicle and no going. Thus, all those limitless vehicles ultimately tend towards the unsurpassed vehicle, therefore everything becomes a perfect cause for Buddhahood, even just generating faith once, it is far superior to the merit accumulated in many lifetimes, as it is said in the Sūtra: Offering charity every month, whatever good deeds are done for a hundred years,

Those who have faith in the Dharma do not even give away one-sixteenth of their possessions. It is said. Who is the one who spends eight years in the forest, relying entirely on fire? Who is the one who meditates for a moment and makes offerings? That offering maker is far better than one who performs fire sacrifices for a hundred years. It is said. Thus, what is shown as one vehicle and many vehicles is the pinnacle of all of them, and that is this unsurpassable yoga. That vehicle itself is the wisdom of uniting the two, and what clearly shows the nature of that wisdom is the extensive commentary on all the tantras of unsurpassable yoga, which has become a concise text. This was done by the glorious great Vajra master Sangye Sbaspa (Buddha Hidden), who, for the benefit of those of lesser intelligence, expressed it in writing. The name of this treatise is "Commentary on the Seven Suchness," and wherever the term "suchness" is mentioned in the tantra class, it clarifies everything. The great master Dzalandhara said, "That one suchness is the name of the seven." Therefore, it is named so to extensively explain that meaning. The tantra on which it relies is mainly the Chakrasamvara, but it becomes a general commentary on all the unsurpassable ones. In explaining this, there are two aspects: the general meaning and the meaning of the text. The first has four parts: the object of realizing suchness, the disciple to whom it is taught, the manner of teaching, and the actual suchness to be taught. The first is that there should be a noble and qualified guru with oral instructions. It is said, "For a learned speaker without oral instructions, there is no talk of this." The second is that Arya Deva said, "Just as a skilled doctor cures diseases, so too is it rare to subdue incurable patients. Having obtained the power of a Bodhisattva, it is extremely rare to tame those who cannot be tamed." Although the realm of sentient beings is vast, nevertheless, whatever one likes, that should be taught first. A vessel that has degenerated from the sacred Dharma is definitely not a vessel. As it is said, the one to whom it is actually shown is the one who has awakened the lineage of the Vajrayana, who possesses vows, who serves the guru with respect, and who possesses compassion, that is, one who possesses four qualities.
