Collection of Instructions by Master Tāranātha JT105: Inner Introduction to the Six-Branched Yoga. Inner Introduction to the Six-Branched Yoga. First Introduction Section: A brief explanation based on uncommon oral instructions. Inner Introduction to the Six-Branched Yoga. A brief explanation will be given of the uncommon aspects known as the Inner Introduction to the Six-Branched Yoga. These include visions such as smoke, and various differences in experiences, such as the speed of their arising, their subtlety or grossness, their clarity or lack thereof, and their stability or instability. The essence of the various bodily experiences is the experience of bliss. This includes various stages, such as bliss arising in one part of the body, in most of the body, in the entire body, in both body and mind, and in everything internal and external. The essence of all speech experiences is the cessation of breath. There are various ways of stopping the breath. The essence of mind experiences is the non-conceptual experience of emptiness. Such emptiness experiences also have various aspects, such as non-conceptuality that is merely not distracted by appearances, clarity of awareness while remaining non-conceptual, and stages of knowing nakedly without touching that awareness with any characteristics of existence, non-existence, being, or non-being. Furthermore, the nature of mind is luminosity, which is primordially clear, empty, and blissful. Of these, the self-nature of luminosity, which arises as a sign in the yogi's mind, is the ten aspects of constant luminosity. The self-nature of bliss, which arises as a sign in the yogi's mind, ranges from the experience of bliss of retraction to the bliss of the Buddha's state. The self-nature of emptiness, which arises as a sign in the yogi's mind, is the arising of emptiness experiences from the three isolations to the final completion. Although the three, clarity, emptiness, and bliss, are undifferentiated in reality, in the appearance to the yogi's mind, there are various ways in which the clarity aspect, the emptiness aspect, and the bliss aspect arise individually, or in pairs, or all three together. All of these are unmistaken in terms of experiencing clarity, emptiness, and bliss, but they appear as different characteristics such as oneness and otherness.

Even illusion can become a method for realizing the true nature of reality by dispelling illusion with illusion. The complete exhaustion of the elements of illusion is solely the wisdom of the Buddha. In all stages of the path, it is practiced in a mixed manner. For the moment, this is a brief instruction. This is the first section of introduction based on the uncommon oral instructions. Second section of introduction. Introducing each one individually, starting from the appearance of the ten signs separately. Now, to explain these meanings in a little more detail. By relying on the profound action-bond, if one grasps the aspect of the dependent body, the winds and mind will abide appropriately in the central channel. If one grasps the aspect of the dependent mind, the nature of mind itself will abide slightly in its own nature of clarity, emptiness, and bliss, and one's own nature will appear clearly as appropriate. For example, from a stream of turbid water flowing rapidly, if one takes it into a good vessel and leaves it undisturbed for a moment, the turbidity will gradually clear, and the water's own color will appear accordingly. Therefore, the pure essence of the channels, winds, bindus, and mind will appear as empty forms. The nature of the elements of channels, winds, bindus, and mind, which are contained by the earth element, will appear as signs of smoke and fire in the yogi's mind. Similarly, the pure essence of the water element appears as mirages and the moon, the pure essence of the fire element as sky-visions and the sun, the pure essence of the wind element as lamps and Rahu, and the pure essence of space and wisdom, or emptiness and bliss, appears as lightning and bindus. Here, "pure essence" refers to the self-nature, or nature, or dharma-nature of those phenomena themselves. That is also the wisdom of clear, empty, blissful, and equanimous taste, but in this case, since it appears as a clear appearance to the yogi, it is referred to, from its opposite aspect, as the wisdom of self-nature, dharma-nature, and clarity. Furthermore, it is said that when signs of smoke and Rahu appear to the practitioner, that is the mind's own nature, the clear light, the Sugata-garbha, which truly abides in the essence of the union of all Buddhas, but in accordance with conventional appearances, if one distinguishes from the opposite aspect, one applies individual terms. In this case, the Tathagata is not in vain.
