English version Divide and administer equally sweet, sour, and fatty substances. Those with lung disease should avoid fatty, spicy, and hot foods in the spring. Question: What is the origin of all diseases? Answer: Overeating easily triggers lung disease; when food is being digested, it easily triggers heat-related illnesses; after food is completely digested, it easily triggers wind-related illnesses. Thus, the four elements (referring to earth, water, fire, and wind) cause illnesses at three different times. Question: If various diseases are mixed together, how should one adjust their diet? Answer: Wind-related illnesses cause weakness, so one should nourish the body with ghee (clarified butter) and other fatty substances. For heat-related illnesses, one should take purgative medicine, such as Haritaki (a medicinal fruit). One should take three kinds of wonderful medicines in equal proportions: sweet medicine, spicy medicine, and ghee or other fatty substances. For lung disease, one should take medicine that induces vomiting. Question: If wind, heat, or lung diseases occur at irregular times, how should they be treated? Answer: One should follow the doctor's diagnosis and adjust diet and herbal medicine according to the condition. Due to the doctor's misdiagnosis, failure to follow medical prescriptions, or encountering adverse conditions, one may die prematurely. Therefore, the Song version says: 'If one has a disease and does not treat it, does not cultivate blessings, the herbal medicine is not suitable, acupuncture is wrong, and one does not meet a good doctor, one will be troubled by the disease and then perish.' Also, the second volume of the *Lotus Sutra* says: 'If one practices medicine but the treatment is improper, it will increase other diseases or even lead to death. If one is sick and no one treats them, even if one takes good medicine, the condition will worsen. Even if the illness is mild, one should not die, but one dies suddenly, this is the first kind of untimely death.' Sutra: The second untimely death is being killed by the king's law. The second kind of untimely death is being executed by the king's law, that is, being wrongly subjected to the king's punishment. This person's lifespan is uncertain karma, and it is also the result of the increasing karma of killing. The *Nirvana Sutra* says: 'A person who kills will receive two kinds of retribution: one is a short life, and the other is many diseases. 'If one encounters favorable conditions, such as cultivating blessings, one will not be punished by the king's law and can live a long life. If one does not cultivate blessings, the past karma of killing will lead to being executed by the king's law and not living a long life, so it is called untimely death. Sutra: The third is to harm their soul. The third kind of untimely death is losing one's soul due to negligence. According to the eighth volume of the *Nirvana Sutra*: 'Diligence without negligence is called nectar. Negligence without diligence is called the path of death. 'If one is not negligent, one can attain the place of immortality. If one is negligent, one always goes to the path of death. If one is negligent, it is called having dharma, which is conditioned dharma, which is the first suffering. Not being negligent is called Nirvana. That Nirvana is called nectar, which is the first and most excellent.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

English version Joy. If one inclines towards activities, that is called the place of death. For those who are immoderate in lust, even their own wives should be avoided. The three long months (the first, fifth, and ninth months of the year), the six fast days, and the eight king days (referring to the beginning of spring, spring equinox, beginning of summer, summer solstice, beginning of autumn, autumn equinox, beginning of winter, winter solstice, also known as the eight seasons). Also, one month before childbirth, one month after childbirth, and under the light of the three luminaries (sun, moon, and stars), if sexual activity occurs, it is called improper sexual conduct. Question: A person guarding a person, anger guarding breaking the law, should be called improper sexual conduct. A person has his own wife, why is it improper? Answer: Since one has received the precepts for one day and one night, one has fallen into the precepts. Originally a wife, now she is not free. Exceeding the time of receiving the precepts is unlawful guarding. Moreover, it harms the body, and sexual intercourse during breastfeeding will cause the milk to dry up. Also, because the mind is attached to lust and no longer protects the child, having sexual intercourse at inappropriate times is called improper sexual conduct. Those who are immoderate in drunkenness are like Angulimala (Angulimala, referring to the murderous demon king) who, after drinking, became chaotic and had relations with his own mother. His mother then committed adultery with outsiders, and he killed them with a knife. As the Mahaprajnaparamita-sastra (Mahaprajnaparamita-sastra) says, the Buddha told Nandika Upasaka (Nandika Upasaka, Nandika layman): Alcohol has thirty-five faults. What are the thirty-five? First, worldly wealth and property are exhausted. Why? Because when people are drunk, their minds have no restraint, and their spending is unlimited. Second, it is the gateway to various diseases. Third, it is the root of strife. Fourth, it is **** (here the original text is wrong, it should be 'improper sexual conduct'). Fifth, it is an ugly reputation, a bad reputation, and is not respected by people. Sixth, it covers wisdom. Seventh, what should be obtained is not obtained, and what has already been obtained is lost. Eighth, hidden things are all told to others. Ninth, various undertakings are abandoned and not completed. Tenth, drunkenness is the root of misbehavior. Why? Because there are many mistakes when drunk, and after being drunk, one is ashamed and worried. Eleventh, the body's strength gradually decreases. Twelfth, the body's complexion deteriorates. Thirteenth, one does not know how to respect one's father. Fourteenth, one does not know how to respect one's mother. Fifteenth, one does not respect Sramanas (Sramana, renunciate practitioners). Sixteenth, one does not respect Brahmanas (Brahmana, priests). Seventeenth, one does not respect uncles and elders. Why? Because after being drunk, one is confused and does not distinguish anything. Eighteenth, one does not respect immortals. Nineteenth, one does not respect the Dharma. Twentieth, one does not respect the Sangha. Twenty-first, one forms parties with evil people. Twenty-second, one alienates virtuous and good people. Twenty-third, one becomes a precept-breaking person. Twenty-fourth, one has no sense of shame. Twenty-fifth, one cannot guard the six senses (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, mind). Twenty-sixth, from form --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
