Namo to the Seven Buddhas who attained perfect enlightenment. Namo to Pratyekabuddhas (Solitary Buddhas, those who attain enlightenment on their own). Namo to all Arhats (worthy ones, those who have extinguished all defilements). Namo to Maitreya (the future Buddha) and all Bodhisattvas (beings striving for enlightenment). Namo to all Anagamins (non-returners, those who have eliminated the fetters of the desire realm), Namo to Sakrdagamins (once-returners, those who have weakened the fetters of the desire realm), Namo to Srotapannas (stream-enterers, those who have entered the stream of the holy path). Namo to those in the world who have right faith and are oriented towards liberation. I bow to all of you. I now wish to recite the Great Peacock King Dhāraṇī Sūtra. May all be fulfilled as desired. Auspicious! All you spirits and deities, listen carefully. May you abandon your evil thoughts, scheming thoughts, and harmful thoughts, and come to enjoy this incense, flowers, and food, and generate loving-kindness, goodness, and faith in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. He is washing and chopping wood for the Sangha. Under a strange tree, a black snake appeared and bit the Bhikkhu's right toe. At that time, the Buddha said to Ananda: 'You should recite the Great Peacock King Dharani Sutra to protect Bhikkhu Mangala. Create a boundary and chant the mantra for him, so that the poison cannot harm him, weapons cannot injure him, and all diseases will be eliminated. If it is pain in half the body, headache, eye pain, face pain, chin pain, throat pain, neck pain, ear pain, toothache, mouth pain, heart pain, back pain, abdominal pain, waist pain, genital pain, thigh pain, shoulder and arm pain, foot pain, joint pain, may all these pains be eliminated and healed, protecting so-and-so.'
