Shamba Kagyu teachings NG18, Key Instructions of Niguma's Whispered Transmission: A Compilation of Essences. Key Instructions of Niguma's Whispered Transmission: A Compilation of Essences. Preliminary Practices. Key Instructions of Niguma's Whispered Transmission: A Compilation of Essences. Homage to Lokeshvari (Avalokiteshvara). Inexpressible, spontaneously accomplished, uncompounded; Union, great bliss, Sambhogakaya (Enjoyment Body) appearing to those to be tamed; Possessing the three kayas (bodies) and seven qualities, great Vajradhara (Diamond Holder), etc.; O compassionate gurus, look with your wisdom! O yidam (personal deity) assembly, consider with your loving-kindness! O Three Jewels, protect us without separation! O dakinis (sky dancers) and dharma protectors, dispel obstacles and accomplish favorable conditions! Thangtong Gyalpo (King of the Empty Plain), the madman of the empty valley, the essence taker of whatever food arises, the equalizer of whatever circumstances arise. This is a collection of the essence of all the teachings of the Great Vehicle (Mahayana). To explain this extraordinary whispered transmission of the wisdom dakini Niguma, there are two aspects: the person who practices and the actual practice. First, the person who practices must have received the four empowerments in the mandala of the five tantra classes or Chakrasamvara (Wheel of Bliss), and must possess vows, faith, and diligence. Furthermore, they must have generated in their mind the preliminary teachings such as impermanence of death, karma (cause and effect), and the faults of samsara (cyclic existence). As Niguma's vajra words state: 'Having matured through the four empowerments, possessing faith and diligence, knowing impermanence and weariness, and having the preliminary practices of faults, whoever strives on this supreme path will become enlightened in six months or in this lifetime.' Second, regarding the actual practice, there are two parts: preliminary practices and the main practice. First, the preliminary practice: In the space in front, visualize a precious throne supported by eight lions. Above that, from the syllable 'pām' arises a lotus with a thousand petals. Above that, from the syllable 'rām' arises a sun disc with a million rays. Above that, from the syllable 'ā' arises a moon disc equal in size to the three thousand worlds. Above that, on various cushions of silk, etc., visualize the guru as the great Vajradhara, with a blue body, one face, and two arms, the right hand holding a vajra (diamond scepter) and the left hand holding a bell, crossed at the heart. The two legs are in the vajra posture (diamond posture), naked, adorned with bone ornaments and jewels, with a smiling face, possessing three eyes, and hair hanging down to the waist. Merely seeing his body purifies obscurations; merely hearing his speech will surely establish one on the irreversible ground.

Visualize a state of being without inherent existence. In front of it, visualize yourself and all sentient beings taking refuge from the core of your heart and the soles of your feet. All sentient beings, equal to the sky, take refuge in the Lama! I take refuge in the Buddha! I take refuge in the Dharma! I take refuge in the Sangha! Recite this a hundred times, etc. Then, may all mother sentient beings, equal to the sky, have happiness and the causes of happiness; may they be free from suffering and the causes of suffering; may they never be separated from the bliss that is without suffering; may they abide in equanimity, free from attachment and aversion, near and far, happiness and suffering. Thus, meditate on the four immeasurables. Then, for the benefit of all sentient beings, may I attain the state of Buddhahood. For this purpose, I will engage in the sequence of virtuous actions with body, speech, and mind. Thus, generate Bodhicitta. Then, supplicate the Lama: I supplicate Buddha Vajradhara! I supplicate the Dakini Niguma! I supplicate the Siddha Khyungpo Naljor! I supplicate Mogchok Rinchen Tsondu! I supplicate the Unequaled Kyergangpa Chenpo! I supplicate Lama Sangye Nyenton! I supplicate Dharma Lord Sangye Tonpa! I supplicate the Scholar-Siddha Shangton Choje! I supplicate Gyalwa Mupa Chenpo! I supplicate Lama Dorje Shönnu! I supplicate the Named Namkhai Naljor! I supplicate Bodhisattva Jinpa Zangpo! I supplicate Siddha Tsondu Zangpo! Please bless the path of skillful means, the heat of bliss to arise spontaneously! Please bless the illusory body, attachment and aversion to be self-liberated! Please bless dreams and delusions to be self-purified! Please bless clear light, ignorance to be self-cleared! Please bless transference of consciousness, without meditation, to become Buddha! Please bless in the Bardo, to become victorious Sambhogakaya Buddha! Thus, or with any verse, supplicate intensely. The main practice has six parts: the path of skillful means, the heat of bliss arises spontaneously; the illusory body, attachment and aversion are self-liberated; dreams and delusions are self-purified; clear light, ignorance is self-cleared; transference of consciousness, without meditation, becomes Buddha; in the Bardo, one becomes a victorious Sambhogakaya Buddha. First, the path of skillful means has three parts: preliminary, main practice, and conclusion. The preliminary has three parts: the purifying A-syllable emptiness, emptiness dispels sickness and evil spirits, and the distinction of the three emptinesses. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
