Collection of Instructions by the Great Scholar Shakya Chokden skc153 'The All-Pervading Chakravartin' 23-7-1a ༄༅། །The All-Pervading Chakravartin. The unexcelled mantra's, path's basis, the uncommon. ༄༅། །The All-Pervading Chakravartin. Svasti! To the all-pervading Chakravartin, I prostrate, the basis for practicing secret mantra. What has been said above is general, now I will explain by distinguishing the specifics. The unexcelled mantra's, path's basis, the uncommon, the supreme vehicle's bodhicitta, and the wisdom that is not deluded about the self of the individual, and all phenomena, are empty in their own nature. By the reasoning of establishing this as a preliminary, it is made into a distinction. The two stages alone are not prohibited to outsiders, hearers, and solitary realizers. The secret mantras taught by the great god, Vishnu, and Brahma, are for the sake of subduing the followers of non-Buddhists, therefore the Victorious Ones taught in various tantras. If there is no path to subdue those to be subdued in the Dharma of that tantra, where can one find the means by which it can subdue them? That 23-7-2a the person who is the basis at that time, is common with worldly people, merely the 'I' imputed to the aggregates, which in the philosophical system is permanent, singular, and independent. By familiarizing oneself with that, that becomes clearly apparent, like the exhaustion of earth and so on. Even others besides yogis have examples of appearing like those who are familiar, such as illusory elephants and so on. Although that yogi can transcend the two realms, because of being deluded about the self of the individual, he is not able to transcend the three realms. When the grasping and the grasped are obstructed, there is the possibility of abiding in the innate non-grasping nature that arises from merging into the central channel, but because such a knowledgeable person is bound by the conceptual thought of clinging to the self, he is not able to transcend the three realms. The hearer monk is said to be the supreme basis for mantra in the Kalachakra, therefore it is considered suitable as a basis for the two stages taught in the unexcelled tantra. The basis is also called 'self,' which is the wisdom that is separate from grasping and being grasped, therefore that path is able to manifest arhatship in that lifetime. If one is not familiar with the selflessness of phenomena and is without the bodhicitta of the Great Vehicle, one is not able to manifest Vajradhara on that very basis. Counting, following, stopping, and so on, when the yoga of winds that is taught in the Hearer's teachings is perfected, then in that, 23-7-2b all grasping can be eliminated, but the Dharma --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If ignorance is not eliminated, and even if it is eliminated, if it is not cultivated as a habit, then all obscurations of knowledge cannot be purified. The final existence of a Pratyekabuddha, even if it is not a basis for hearing the secret mantra, if it cannot be placed in other lifetimes like a Shravaka, then the Pratyekabuddhas arranged in the mandala will become meaningless. Although it is said that the conduct of a Pratyekabuddha is demonstrated, in that, rather than demonstrating the conduct, it demonstrates the kind suitable as a basis for the secret mantra. Great deities such as Maheshvara and Brahma, even if they adopt that conduct, are said to be actual Buddhas, and two ways of explaining them as Svatantrika have arisen, which is similar to this, achieving Buddhahood by praising the method of practice, or establishing them as Svatantrika by denigrating them. If the conduct adopted by Maheshvara is the Buddha himself, then why can't the wrathful deity Svatantrika be a suitable basis for the secret mantra? This is the established reasoning. Auspicious! The universal sovereign, the Chakravartin. Svasti! Homage to the universal sovereign, the Chakravartin. It is necessary to connect with conduct to Vajradhara (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་འཛིན་པ,Sanskrit Devanagari: वज्रधर,Sanskrit Romanization: Vajradhara, Literal meaning: Vajra Holder), explaining the intention of what was said. For beginners with a human basis, this is to explain the method of doing it in one lifetime, not to assume it in all cases. If it is assumed, then the basis for the path to complete Buddhahood in the Vajrayana becomes necessarily only the desire realm and the human basis. If it is assumed, then all bases for complete Buddhahood in the Paramitayana also necessarily become that, because without relying on mantra, it does not exist, which you yourselves acknowledge. At the end of the ten bhumis, after the preceding uninterrupted path, relying on mantra to achieve Buddhahood, even at that time, it does not become the most supreme, it is reasonable to connect with great bliss (Tibetan: བདེ་ཆེན, Sanskrit Devanagari: महा सुख, Sanskrit Romanization: maha sukha, Literal meaning: Great Bliss), because there is no other proximate cause here, because the uninterrupted path at the end of the continuum does not abandon the habitual tendencies of afflictions, therefore no afflictions exist. Therefore, if one says that without relying on mantra, there is no complete Buddhahood, then generally speaking, outside the three realms, in other pure lands that are completely transcendent, there would be no complete Buddhahood, and places like Akanishta and the Vidyadhara, and the places of the Khecaras, would not transcend the desire realm. Truly, after all the uninterrupted paths of the Paramitayana are complete, connecting with the proximate cause of mantra, the number of assembled causes is not complete, because the habitual tendencies of afflictions have been abandoned. Or, having attained a pure ground, the nature of uncontaminated mind. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
