Secondly, when desire arises in the mind, it is naturally stopped, and this is pure discipline. Thirdly, when others are regarded as objects worthy of offering, future greed and hatred arising from hatred and self-abasement can be temporarily stopped. But how to cut off the greed and hatred that have already arisen? For afflictions such as greed and hatred, as soon as they arise, they should be forcibly stopped from the front, and must be stopped. What is the antidote? Use the wisdom of observing oneself and the wisdom gained through such observation. When to observe? Not occasionally, but in all actions of walking, staying, sitting, and lying down. The necessity of doing so is that if the arisen afflictions are not stopped and allowed to develop, they will harm oneself and others. This, by identifying the antidote to eradicate ignorance with discriminating wisdom, explains how to learn Prajna Paramita (perfection of wisdom). Fourthly, if it is thought that the way to abandon afflictions is like that of Sravakas (Hinayana Buddhists) and Pratyekabuddhas (those who awaken on their own without relying on the teachings of others), to obtain the most supreme wisdom by practicing selflessness and emptiness in a quiet place, rather than as mentioned above, in a group of beings with evil nature, because it is easier to generate greed and hatred at that time, then this idea is not correct. Because that kind of reliance on solitude is to be avoided in this case. Therefore, associating with beings of evil nature should be regarded as most precious, and one must associate with them. The reason for this is that such a situation is as difficult to obtain as encountering a treasure mine. When should one associate with them? When one sees others committing strong sins such as the five heinous crimes (killing father, killing mother, killing Arhat, disrupting the Sangha, maliciously drawing blood from the Buddha's body), or suffering from strong sufferings like hell, one must associate with them. Because such a situation is indispensable for the first three perfections (generosity, discipline, patience) of the Bodhisattva (practitioner who aspires to become a Buddha) himself, and it is also necessary to guide them to the right path without abandoning them. This, by distinguishing the solitude of the Hinayana from the solitude of the Bodhisattva, shows how to learn Dhyana Paramita (perfection of meditation). In short, the first three verses explain the antidote to suppress the arising of afflictions and to eradicate the seeds of arisen afflictions, and the fourth verse, in order to eliminate the controversy about this, combines the explanation of the discipline of guarding against evil deeds. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is very appropriate. Learning to Benefit Sentient Beings Second, benefiting sentient beings is divided into two: benefiting others by transforming their harm into benefit through action; and benefiting all sentient beings through both thought and action. The first is further divided into two: bestowing victory and benefit upon those who cause harm; and regarding those who cause harm as spiritual friends to bestow benefit. The first is: If some who hate me, driven by jealousy, openly revile and secretly slander, speaking unreasonable lies, then let the failure indicated by that lie be taken by myself; and let the victory and benefit that the liar himself desires to obtain be given to that other, it should be given. Because obtaining the desired benefit is the main goal of benefiting others. This also symbolizes the giving and receiving of material things, therefore it is pure giving. The second is: If I have helped other beings with Dharma and material benefits, but some, instead of repaying, cause very unreasonable harm, then that perpetrator should be regarded as a spiritual friend, and the harm he has caused should be accepted, because in this way one can avoid falling into samsara and the lower realms. For example, one who wants to give alms must regard the beggar as a spiritual friend. This passage does not mean that when one is repaid with harm, one should be weary of samsara, as it is said: 'In the world, begging is common, but harming others is rare.' For a Bodhisattva, the more harm-doers there are, the more it is the goal to be pursued. The second is: If it is thought that helping those who have not harmed oneself will not bring great benefit, then, in short, whether directly through action or indirectly through thought, all future benefits and the happiness of this life should be offered to all sentient beings without distinction. Because there is no sentient being who has not been a parent, they are the supreme object of giving; and there is no one who has not been a harm-doer, so they are the supreme object of patience. Similarly, offering benefit and happiness to others also enables one to bear the harm caused in the past when they were parents and enemies, that is, all afflictions and suffering. May I be able to bear all of this. How to bear it? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
