At the edges and on the left and right, the eight Tathagatas are each surrounded by their retinues, as described in the tantras. Thus, in front of those who are seated surrounded by retinues, Manjushri (妙吉祥) and the other three are seated facing inward. The 'third' refers to: first, the seat of the Tathagata; second, the seat of the Bodhisattva; and third, on the right, Brahma (梵天) and others, and on the left, the Yakshas (夜叉) and others. The four doors are guarded by the four Great Kings, who abide in the manner of protecting this sutra and the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who uphold it. Others depict the palace of the Medicine Buddha (药师佛) with the scriptures in the center and the deities facing outward, which is not in accordance with either Sutra or Tantra, but there is no conflict as a means of accumulating merit. Furthermore, as stated in the sutra, 'Tathagata Supremely Renowned Glorious King' (善名称吉祥王如来) and others are seated on jeweled lion thrones, this is to distinguish the characteristics of each seat, and the names of each Tathagata are mentioned separately, not to generate the Samaya being, because immediately after it is said, 'the abiding place with complete seats'. Thus, the land containing the immeasurable palace, and filled with offerings, are blessed. Where is it blessed? In front of the practitioner himself. By what is it blessed? By the compassion and aspiration of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. The reason for the blessing is: the blesser has perfected the two accumulations, and the power of the blessed place, the Dharmadhatu (法界), is completely pure. Then, invite the eight Tathagatas and their retinues, and perform prostrations and offerings, etc. The second part includes inviting and performing prostrations and offerings, etc. First, as mentioned above, once the main deity and its retinue have been invited, they should be visualized as residing in the center of the immeasurable palace. Before the invitation, only the throne is generated, because immediately after the completion of the invitation verses, it is said: 'The eight Tathagatas are seated on the eight great lion thrones'. Merely inviting the Rupakaya (色身, Form Body) into the immeasurable palace does not fully accomplish the practice of Tantra, as stated in the *Magadha Auspicious Woman's Narrative*. Furthermore, the seven Tathagatas have not yet shown Parinirvana (般涅槃), so their Rupakaya can be invited through miraculous power, while Shakyamuni (Śākyamuni, 释迦牟尼) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since Shakyamuni Buddha has already shown the manner of passing into Nirvana in this realm, one should invite the forms of the body that exist in other realms. For the Dharma Jewel (chos dkon mchog), it is sufficient to invite the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas (byang chub sems dpa') as the basis, as the essence of the Dharmadhatu (chos dbyings) is inherently pure and does not require special invitation. Therefore, there is no separate explanation for inviting the Dharma in the scriptures. If the form of the Great Mother (yum chen mo) can be established in the immeasurable palace (gzhal med khang) and requested, then why shouldn't there be a separate invitation for the Dharma? We must consider this. Therefore, the Dharma Jewel to be placed in the immeasurable palace and the Dharma Jewel in the context of 'the true words of the Tathagata' (de bzhin gshegs pa'i bka' yang dag pa) are not the same, as the former refers to the Dharma of transmission (lung gi chos) and the latter refers to the Dharmadhatu (chos kyi dbyings). Therefore, performing separate prostrations, offerings, and prayers in that context is not the intention of the author. What is the reason for inviting these beings? The Seven Tathagatas (de bzhin gshegs pa bdun) are the main objects of teaching in this sutra, and Shakyamuni Buddha is invited because it is mentioned in the introduction of this sutra that the Eight Tathagatas (de bzhin gshegs pa brgyad) resided together to bless the meaning of the sutra. If one must place someone in the mandala (dkyil 'khor) assembly of deities simply because they are the speaker of the sutra, then the reason is mistaken. Inviting Manjushri ('jam dpal) and others is for the same reason as before. If one must place someone there simply because they are the questioner of the sutra or its protector, then the reason is mistaken. Secondly, performing seven prostrations to the Seven Tathagatas, and by extension performing seven offerings and so on, is for the purpose of completing forty-nine prostrations and offerings. The necessity of this will be explained in the section on refuge and liberation. For the remaining beings, the previous pattern is closely applied, but it is difficult to explain the reason. Praying for desired things and obtaining accomplishments. Third, making aspirations and obtaining accomplishments according to the text. The necessity of practicing this. Third, regarding the necessity of practicing this, there are two necessities: First, to avert epidemics (bro nad), harm from planets (gza'), and constellations (rgyu skar), and the invasion of enemy armies in future times. Second, to be regarded with the mind of all the Tathagatas and to be remembered by all the Bodhisattvas. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
