A Collection of Instructions by the Great Scholar Shakya Chokden skc29: Refutation of Arguments Concerning the World System as Explained in the Kalachakra 7-6-1a Refutation of Arguments Concerning the World System as Explained in the Kalachakra Refutation of Arguments Concerning the World System as Explained in the Kalachakra 7-6-1b Om Svasti Siddham. Homage to the glorious Kalachakra's world system. This is a differentiation of the great tradition of the Mahayana Dharma, called 'Dispelling Disputes.' That which was composed by the maker of time, because without time, it does not arise. To you, the manifold mother of Kalachakra, who unites the three times, enemies and union! Having paid homage, the world system of the Kalachakra, because it does not accord with the Abhidharma, the statement that it is wrongly explained should be refuted. Here in the snowy land, later scholars, with their twisted intellects and doubts where there should be none, those famous and clear-minded ones say: The great earth is divided into twelve parts, into which the Dharma of the mlecchas enters. It is said that it destroys them, and that its doctrine will remain for one thousand eight hundred years. If the Dharma of the mlecchas enters into the 'unpleasant sound,' then ten unwholesome deeds will occur. If that violent doctrine remains there, then it will become a suitable vessel for the Buddha's doctrine. If that is the case, then it does not accord with the vast Abhidharma texts, and the Vinaya texts with reliable sources contradict everything. To answer this, first, explain the object and the classification in detail. First, because of the uncertainty of the object itself, and because of refuting with a response according to desire, refuting the proponent is called 'a semblance of refutation.' The twelve parts spoken of here, if they are the 'unpleasant sound' spoken of in the Abhidharma, then that is indeed the case, but it is not the case, so it is not entailed there. The 'unpleasant sound' spoken of in the Abhidharma, if you can accept the twelve parts spoken of here, then the previous refutation is a response according to desire. Second, explaining the classification in detail, through three points, refutation, and supplementary points, the Mahayana texts are clearly explained. The first point is that whatever is said to be unreasonable in the common texts, refuting it with uncommon scriptural authority, is a text that can demonstrate its power. If it is the opposite of that, refuting the Mahayana texts with inferior scriptural authority, who would trust such a reversal of right and wrong? The second point is that in the world, the mind of co-emergent grasping and apprehending duality, whatever arises, the Buddha taught the Dharma in accordance with that appearance. So, if the way of appearing contradicts, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, for all the arrangements of the world systems, do you acknowledge that they are different and not confused? If so, then the illusions of each sentient being cannot be measured by the same standard. Thirdly, if all the mental appearances from sentient beings to Buddhas are determined in their own minds, then even if they appear contradictory, there is actually no disagreement. If it is argued that the center of Uttarakuru (Northern Continent) is not a continent with unpleasant sounds, then because it can be determined that the center of Jambudvipa (Southern Continent) is not Jambudvipa, according to your view, the descriptions of places like Palden Drepung (Glorious Rice Heap) would not exist in Jambudvipa, and all the arrangements of Jambudvipa would not exist in the center of the Southern Continent. If you say that, then all the continents mentioned in the Abhidharma (Kosha) are not those mentioned here, and what is mentioned here is not those either. The arrangements mentioned in their respective scriptures exist in their respective continents, just as they appear in their respective skies. You too, the great arrangement of the world system of the Glorious Guhyasamāja Tantra, if you think it is a world system accumulated from dust particles, then you have deviated from the Mahayana teachings. If you don't think so, then isn't it contradictory to the Abhidharma scriptures? If the Abhidharma cannot refute the Guhyasamāja scriptures, then accept it. Or, the debater here pursues, for beings of different kinds, one external object appears as many. For beings of the same kind, one object does not appear as many, so they say. Having heard much like this, wise people do not speak, because one sentence contains a hundred faults that contradict scripture and reasoning. Wanting to manifest external objects in a naked, non-conceptual form, in the treatises of the Shravakayana and Tirthikas, they do not acknowledge the validity of one object appearing as many. In the treatises of the Sākāra-vijñānavāda, they do not think that multiple appearances and the aspects they grasp are different, and that one object will truly appear. Even so, for each of them, from the dust particles that produce the aspect, to the object of entry and the object of grasping, because it is themselves, it is valid for themselves. Just like the direct perception of the six realms of beings who are not directly deluded by the causes of illusion for the same water, is not described in the treatises of reasoning. Having entered into the distinct Mahayana, if you acknowledge the validity of one external object as the object of grasping, then you have deviated from the dharma-nairātmya (selflessness of phenomena). Therefore, for one object appearing as many, whether it exists or not, what can the debater and the respondent do? For the non-veridical parikalpita (imputed) that is not directly deluded by the causes of illusion, whether it appears as an object or a self, for it, thinking that it is that, is the truth of worldly convention. Things that exist on the level of saṃvṛti-satya (conventional truth). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
