Because it does not manifest the extremes. Thus, it is shown that by meditating in this way, one can manifest the non-abiding nirvana. Second, it is shown that by meditating in this way, one can manifest the non-abiding nirvana: The great being who has the essence of emptiness and compassion, having been accustomed to it for countless eons, the ultimate enlightenment that you manifest, is called non-abiding nirvana by the Buddhas in this Mahayana Dharma, because it does not abide in the two extremes of samsara and nirvana. Praising the mind of enlightenment and summarizing by way of introduction. Praise. Fourth, summarizing by praising the mind of enlightenment, which is divided into two parts: praise and dedication of its merits. The first part includes: praise for being able to continue the lineage of the Buddha, praise for being the main factor in establishing the Mahayana, praise for being the main cause of accomplishing the benefit of oneself and others, praise for generating immeasurable accumulations of merit, and praise for being the best of all wealth. Therefore, the mind of enlightenment is based on reason. First, the taste of emptiness is supreme, and it is mixed with the taste of great compassion, becoming the source of many merits and wisdom. Those who drink it for the purpose of accomplishing the benefit of themselves and others are the sons of the Victorious One, because they are able to continue the lineage of the Buddha. Therefore, with all the objects of body, speech, and mind, always bow down and pay homage to the mind of enlightenment. All the objects of offering in the three realms are worthy of being offered at all times. For the purpose of continuing the lineage of the Buddha, I pray that those who lead the world will always remain. Second, the mind of enlightenment is said to be the Dharma that represents the Mahayana, therefore, by placing the mind equally, by the effort of body and speech, generate the true mind of enlightenment, which has the essence of compassion. Third, for the purpose of accomplishing the benefit of oneself and others, the method of generating it in the continuum, other than the essence of emptiness and compassion, does not exist in the world, because the Buddha has not seen a method other than the mind of enlightenment that can perfect the two benefits. The fourth part is divided into two points: the merit of generating it and the merit of meditating on it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Firstly, merely generating the Bodhicitta (mind of enlightenment), the accumulation of merit one obtains, if it had a form, would be greater than filling the entire sky, as stated in the sutras (Bodhicaryavatara). Secondly, any being who, even for a moment, cultivates the Bodhicitta, the accumulation of merit from that, even the Victorious Ones (Buddhas) cannot enumerate. Fifthly, the undefiled Bodhicitta is a jewel, the supreme among all jewels, because it fulfills all desires. The disturbing emotions, demons, and other thieves cannot harm it, nor can they steal it, because it is inseparable from the mind of the practitioner. Sixthly, for those who direct their minds towards Bodhicitta, just as the aspirations of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in samsara are unwavering, you should also strive to explain with a mind of wonder. After doing so, one will realize and attain the practice of Samantabhadra (Kuntuzangpo). Here, the difference between the aspirations of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas lies in the difference between the aspiration for Bodhi practice and the aspiration for Samantabhadra's practice. Dedication: Secondly, Dedication: May all beings who walk on the path shown by the Two-Footed Lord (Buddha), those who are drowning in the waves of the ocean of samsara, through the Bodhicitta praised by the supreme conquerors, and the incomparable merit praised by Nagarjuna, attain liberation. Thus, the explanation of the ultimate Bodhicitta—the essence of emptiness and compassion—the commentary composed by the great teacher Arya Nagarjuna, is completed. This treatise has twelve translations, including that of the great translator Lotsawa Rabzhi, and it is said that the wise Tsang Nagpa refined the words, making thirteen translations in total. This explanation is based on the translation of Patsab Lotsawa. Without relying on other commentaries, the explanation of this treatise is finished. If I have not clearly stated its meaning, it is because I cannot eliminate my own fabrications. May those who have emptiness and compassion as their essence, relying on the great Bodhicitta, and who can symbolize the sons of the Buddhas, become my support. May I be free from the arrogance of extensive learning. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Away from turmoil, in the teachings of peace, with the nectar of emptiness, perfectly dwelling, nourish your desires. Abandon the companions of the eight worldly concerns (referring to the eight worldly phenomena of gain, loss, disgrace, fame, praise, criticism, suffering, and happiness), and the chariot of the mind that grasps at names and forms, dwell in the forest of the Dharmadhatu!
